New MADD Activity Guides
Coincide With Brain Awareness Week
In conjunction with the recent International Brain Awareness Week, March 15â19, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) announced two new, fun activity guides, Brain Smarts and Fragile: Handle with Care, available to help adults teach youth about the negative impact alcohol has on the developing brain.
âMADDâs activity books are powerful tools to engage students, teach them new information and help limit alcohol use,â noted Wendy J. Hamilton, MADD national president. âAlcohol kills more youth than all other illicit drugs combined. Therefore, itâs critical that young people understand the damage alcohol can do to their developing brains and know how to protect themselves by making smart, healthy decisions.â
Brain Smarts, developed for students in grades 3 through 5, includes five activities that teach kids about their brains and how alcohol places their brains and bodies at risk.
Fragile: Handle with Care is designed for middle school students in grades 6 and 7. The activity guide is written for the age group, that, statistically, is beginning to have experiences with alcohol.
The two booklets complement MADDâs nationally recognized Protecting You/Protecting Me curriculum. For more information on either curricular guide, call 512-693-9422 or visit www.pypm.org.
