Karen Powell and Denise Croden combined for 37 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots as Pizza Palace – ahead at one time by 18 points – held off a fierce rally by Walsh Logging to capture a 44-40 win in Newtown Health & Fitness Women’s Basketball League action this week.

Jackie Candee had a strong game with nine points, several steals and a couple of rebounds. Michelle Smith added eight points, several key free throws and five rebounds. For Walsh, Ruth Rowe and Megan LaCava combined for 39 points, 18 rebounds, three steals and two assists. Carol Hutzinger added five points and eight rebounds as Doris Ratner, Joann Duncanson and Pat McCullough each contributed two points.

Colleen Gregory scored 31 points and dragged down six rebounds to lead Charter Communications to a 55-38 win over Newtown Mobil. Laura Denis added 12 points, as Laura Cook and Stephanie Trolle combined for 12 more. For Newtown Mobil, Karen Katrinak popped in 15 points, including her first ever 3 pointer, as Charlotte DuBail added 11 points (also with a 3-pointer). Sandy Doski and Stacey Laaksonen each contributed six points.

With Shelby Neveriski scoring 32 points, Imagine This rolled to an 84-56 win over NH&F. Suzanne Marsan and Kelly Fegler combined for 42 points while Fegler also had 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Amy Mangold had a strong game with eight points and Sherri Baggett contributed a pair. For NH&F, Mel Darrah canned 20 points – most of those coming in the second half. Sharon McCarthy had 12 points and eight rebounds while Josette Ritzinger added 10 points. Janet Duffey amd Joan Plavnicky combined for 14 points.

In action two weeks ago, Neveriski canned 36 points to lead Imagine This to an 82-43 win over Charter Communications. Marsan added 18 points while Fegler chipped in with 16. Mangold contributed eight as Nancy Bowen and Bonnie Willie played well. For Charter, Laura Denis popped in 22 points and Vicki Davis added 12. Gregory, Cook and Trolle combined for nine points.

Rowe, Hutzinger and LaCava scored 14 points apiece to lead Walsh Logging to a 42-39 win over NH&F. Rowe added 11 rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot as Hutzinger chipped in with 10 rebounds and a steal. LaCava and Ratner combined for 12 rebounds. For NH&F, Darrah and Lisa Bigham combined for 28 points, nine rebounds, two blocked shots, two steals and an assist. McCarthy had six points and seven boards while Rizinger and Plavnicky combined for 13 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.

Powell canned 23 points and Candee and Michelle Smith combined for 29 more to lead Pizza Palace to a 68-39 win over Newtown Mobil. Croden chipped in with nine points while Pia Heine contributed seven. For Mobil, DuBail scored 15 points (including a three-pointer) to spark the offense. Katrinak chipped in with 12 points and a pair of blocked shots as Kathy Blewett, Doski and Carolyn Bernardi combined for 12 points.

The regular season concludes next week.
