Fairfield Preparatory School announced in late Match that Brian Neumeyer, former head coach at Newtown High School, has been named the head coach of its varsity soccer team. Newtown, this past winter, named former Prep Coach Ryan Lyddy its new head coach.

Prior to joining Prep, Neumeyer served as an assistant coach at Sacred Heart University from 2017-2019. He spent 19 seasons as the head coach of Newtown, leading the team from 1997 through 2016.

The Nighthawks won the Class LL State Championship in 2004 and runner-up finishes in 1998 and 2002 under Neumeyer’s direction. Newtown won South-West Conference Championships in 2001, 2002, and 2004, and his teams finished the season nationally ranked in 2002 and 2004.

Neumeyer was a Connecticut Olympic Development Program (ODP) Coach for boys ages 15-18 from 1998-2005 and was the Director of Coaching at the Newtown Soccer Club from 1999-2010. Currently, Neumeyer is still involved at the club level with Connecticut Football Club.

Neumeyer has also been involved in semi-professional soccer, serving as the general manager of the Elm City Express in 2017 and 2018, and helped build the team that won the National Premier Soccer League Championship in 2017.

Former Newtown Coach Brian Neumeyer will take over at Prep in the fall.
