NEW HAVEN â The Southern Connecticut State University department of social work will present the annual Aavo Rakfeldt Memorial Lecture â âFrom Girl to Woman to Elder: Gender Issues for People with Disabilities throughout the Life Cycleâ â on Tuesday, April 13, at 5 pm.
The lecture will be delivered by Harilyn Rousso, LCSW, executive director of Disabilities Unlimited Consulting Services, an organization that provides consultation, training, and research on disability equity issues to promote equal opportunity for people with disabilities.
Ms Roussoâs presentation will examine the impact of gender on women and girls with disabilities, covering such topics as self-esteem, body image, sexuality, parenting, violence, education, employment, health care, and aging. It will also consider programmatic strategies designed to address the multiple barriers facing disabled women and girls.
