MASTER DRAWINGS IN LONDON WILL BE JUNE 29–JULY 6 w/1 cut

LONDON — Master Drawings in London will celebrate its seventh year June 29–July 6 with 20 Master Drawing dealers holding individual gallery exhibitions throughout Mayfair and St James’s, showcasing drawings from the Fifteenth to the Twenty-First Centuries.

Several new dealers include Mallett Fine Art, Stephen Ongpin and Theobald Jennings Fine Art, while Didier Aaron (London) Ltd will return after a year’s absence. Master Drawings in London is an initiative established within the trade to raise the profile of drawings dealers in London. The exhibitions illustrate the depth of expertise and range of stock found in the London trade.

Old Master drawings form a strong element of the event with work from Jean-Luc Baroni, Stephen Ongpin Fine Art, Thomas Williams, Day and Faber, Katrin Bellinger, Flavia Ormond, Trinity Fine Art and Salamander Fine Arts.

Crispian Riley-Smith will exhibit “A Group of Figures in Adoration,” a characteristic brush drawing by Faccini, and an interesting portrait of a dwarf dressed in theatrical costume, attributed to Giulio Romano.

Stephen Ongpin Fine Art will exhibit a Tintoretto chalk drawing, “Study of a male nude.” This type of muscular male nude occurred throughout Tintoretto’s painted oeuvre.

The display by Agnew’s will include a number of classic English and French drawings, including Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones’s “Head of a Girl-Study for a ‘watcher’ in ‘The Sleep of Arthur in Avalon.’”

Eighteenth Century English drawings will be represented by Andrew Wyld, Andrew Clayton-Payne and Lowell Libson Ltd. The latter will exhibit “The ceiling of the Saloon at 44 Berkeley Square, London,” a working drawing in pen, black and gray ink and watercolor, extensively inscribed by William Kent.

Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century European drawings will be at Stoppenbach and Delestre, which will show “Scène de rue au Tréport,” made in 1885 by Luigi Loir, which comes from a private collection in Germany.

Connaught Brown will focus on modern drawings this year, including work by Chagall and Dubuffet.

An extensive catalog for Master Drawings in London will be produced for the first time this year.
