Arthur Emerson Allen

US Air Force Veteran

Arthur Emerson Allen of Virginia, 77, formerly of Westport and Weston, died March 26, after being stricken ill, despite heroic efforts from doctors, nurses, and staff at Danbury Hospital. Born January 12, 1933, in Norwalk, he was the son of Viola (Bay) and Ralph Allen.

Along with his beloved wife Marion, Mr Allen is survived by three children, including William E. Allen and his wife, Dayna L., of Newtown; two brothers; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Following high school, he honorably served our country as Airman 1st Class in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He served two years overseas as a tail gunner on the B-29 Superfortress 307th bomb wing 372nd Bomb Squadron during the Korean Conflict, and later in the Air Force Reserves.

Mr Allen worked for Sikorsky as a field checkout technician assigned to the presidential helicopters. He worked for Norden Systems as a supervisor. In addition, he also worked for Perkin-Elmer Corporation (1983–1986) on the ASTRA Project; and his proudest contribution was working on the Hubble Space Telescope project.

He loved carpentry, fishing, gardening, boating, and telling stories of his service to his country.

His funeral will be Saturday, April 3, in the parlor of Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street, Norwalk, at 10 am, with the Reverend Robert D. Beinke to officiate. Interment will follow in Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport.
