Chamber Launching ‘Newtown Bucks’ Gift Certificate Program

What could be better than a “one size fits all” program to promote buying local? Perhaps participating in that program for whatever price you are willing to pay.

The Newtown Chamber of Commerce is hosting a breakfast meeting to kick off a new gift certificate program called “Newtown Bucks” at Sal e Pepe Restaurant, 97 South Main Street, April 8 at 8 am.

The Newtown Bucks gift certificate program is well suited to accomplish the chamber’s goal of promoting buying local — ensuring as much discretionary spending as possible stays in the Newtown community, enhancing local business growth as a result.

Anyone in the community can purchase the gift certificates in denominations of $10 and $25 through the chamber website www.newtown-ct.com or in-person at the chamber office at Edmond Town Hall. There is no limit to the amount of certificates an individual can obtain.

Gift certificates may be spent at any participating business. A current list of qualifying businesses will be available on the chamber website.

The meeting to launch the Newtown Bucks program is open to the public and business community, and there is no cost to attend. A continental breakfast will be served, and First Selectman Pat Llodra will be the guest speaker.

According to a release, businesses must be a Chamber of Commerce member to participate in Newtown Bucks. A second meeting for nonmembers interested in joining the chamber and Newtown Bucks is planned for May 6 at Sal e Pepe Restaurant at 8 am.
