Equine Surgery Topic of Quiz The Experts At Post University

WATERBURY — The field of equine surgery is constantly changing and technological advances over

the last few years have been rapid. On Friday, April 9, at 7:15 pm, Post University’s Quiz the Experts series will feature an Update on Equine Surgery by Dr Ryland Edwards, a veterinarian on the staff of Fairfield Equine Associates. He will give details about the latest improvements in various areas of equine surgery, now an important tool in returning horses to competition fitness and in maintaining the health of our equine athletes.

Dr Edwards grew up in Virginia where he gained exposure and a desire to pursue veterinary medicine by working in his father’s veterinary practice. His veterinary education began at the University of Georgia, followed by an internship, residency, Master’s of Science, and clinical instructorship at Cornell University.

He achieved Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1996 while working at Belmont and Aqueduct racetracks in New York. He was most recently a clinical assistant professor at the school of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he completed a PhD in veterinary science. Dr Edwards has been actively involved in research of equine upper airway disorders, fracture healing, and the management of cartilage injury. His clinical interests are focused on surgical disorders and the diagnosis and management of poor performance in the sport horse.

The program will be held in the Traurig Library Board Room at Post University’s Waterbury Campus, 800 Country Club Road (exit 17 off I-84). Admission is $10 at the door, and is free to Post students.

The Quiz the Experts series is organized by the Post University Equine Resource Committee, to provide topical and up to date information on subjects related to the ownership, care, and training of horses.

Proceeds from the Quiz the Experts Lecture series benefit equine scholarships and the Equine Program at Post University. For information, call 203-596-4631 or 203-596-4645, or email CBaker@post.edu.
