Healeys Honored For

Care And Compassion

Lynda and Jim Healey, Sandy Hook residents and member of the St Rose of Lima Parish, were recently presented with The 2010 Father Rufin Compassionate Care Award.

The late Father Rufin Kuveikis, OFM Cap, was a longtime chaplain of Norwalk Hospital. He is celebrated as a priest who exemplified compassionate and loving care for the sick. The Healeys were two of seven recipients within the Diocese of Bridgeport for the honor this year.

The 17th annual White Mass for Catholic health care professionals in Fairfield County was be celebrated by Bishop William E. Lori on Sunday, March 14, at 8:30 am, at St Augustine Cathedral in Bridgeport. The annual Mass recognizes the contributions of Catholic physicians, nurses, dentists, and other health care professionals.

A celebratory lunch followed the Mass at The Country Club of Fairfield.

During the ceremony, the Healeys were presented with a large Reed & Barton silver platter that had been engraved with their names. The couple were selected for their compassionate and loving care of the sick and elderly.

The ceremony was a little more intimate than had been planned.

“You remember that bad rainstorm we had a few weekends ago?” Mrs Healey said this week. “That’s when this was planned for. We had to find alternate routes to the hall because so many roads had trees down, and then when we got there, the was no power in the hall.

“The ceremony was held, and they did it with candles and flashlights.”
