Bachmann & Klibonoff To Return For Concert Season Finale

Newtown Friends of Music will close their 31st season with a return engagement of the beloved violinist Maria Bachmann, who will be accompanied on the concert grand by pianist Jon Klibonoff, himself an outstanding and award winning artist. The concert will take place on the stage of Edmond Town Hall on Sunday, April 5, at 3 pm.

A violinist who combines outstanding musicianship with dazzling technical command, a tone of exceptional purity, and a magnetic stage presence, Maria Bachmann has been the subject of critical accolades worldwide from the very beginning of her career. The New York Times has hailed her as “a violinist of soul and patrician refinement” and The Boston Globe has similarly praised her as being “astonishing in every musical and technical regard.”  Ms Bachmann has also had the rare distinction of being profiled by Time magazine, as well as by such journals as Mirabella, Fanfare and CD Review.

Pianist Jon Klibonoff has established a versatile career as orchestra soloist, recitalist and chamber musician throughout the United States and abroad. His many awards include the Silver Medal of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, the Affiliate Artists Xerox Pianists Award, the Pro Musicis Foundation Award, first prize in the Kosciuszko Chopin Competition, and a Solo Recitalists Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Presently a member of Trio Solisti, Mr Klibonoff has also appeared as guest artist to numerous chamber music groups including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and the Shanghai, Miami and Lark String Quartets. For three seasons, he was an artist-in-residence for the “On Air” radio series produced by WQXR classical radio in New York City.

As a duo Bachmann and Klibonoff play glorious music with rare commitment and insight. These musicians bounce off each other, digging deep into stately, utterly heart-melting music.  The two behave like soloists, each putting his or her own spin on the music.

On the program for April 5 are pieces by Brahms (Sonatensatz [Scherzo] in C minor will open the performance and Sonata No 3 in D minor, Opus 108 will close the afternoon), Schubert (Sonata in A Major, D 574, Op 162) and Ravel (Sonata No 2 in G Major).

Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for seniors.  Students grades K-12 are admitted free of charge when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. The box office will open one hour before the start of the concert.

Parking is available behind Edmond Town Hall and the facility is handicap accessible.

An informal reception following the concert will offer concert goers the opportunity to mingle with the artists.
