“The fact is, whether we like it or not, the law impacts almost everything we do with horses.”

These are the words of Julie I. Fershtman, nationally known lawyer, author and speaker. Horse industry leaders and experts have praised her newest book, MORE Equine Law & Horse Sense, which makes its national release in April.

“This book can save you time, money and costly mistakes!” proclaims Susan Harris, clinician and author of The U.S. Pony Clubs Manual.

“MORE Equine Law & Horse Sense is a book all horsemen should have and read,” declares Richard Shrake, clinician and author of Resistance free Riding.

Barbara Schulte, clinician and author of Cutting, One Run at a Time, notes: “[Fershtman] is an extraordinary writer. Her tips are clear, practical, and to-the-point.” International eventing rider and instructor Denny Emerson calls the book “a great service to the horse industry.” These are just a few of the many reviews this book has received from industry leaders and organizations from coast to coast.

More Equine Law & Horse combines general principles of the law with “horse sense” tips to help people avoid legal disputes. With no complex legal language, the book is easy to read and understand. Some of the book’s 12 chapters include: details on the 44 equine activity liability laws (as of January 2000), tips for avoiding liability, how to make liability releases succeed, veterinary malpractice, zoning, equine insurance, association legal issues, how to avoid disputes with several equine contracts (there are no forms), equine businesses and how to make them more profitable, a 90-word glossary of legal terms, and a chart of Equine Activity Liability Laws (as of January 2000) that lists which state laws have sign posting and contract language requirements.

Fershtman is well-known throughout the horse industry for her equine law expertise. She has achieved many courtroom successes on equine-related legal matters and has also drafted hundreds of contracts. She has lectured in over 20 states at conventions that include Equitana, Equine Affaire, American Horse Council, National Equine Law Conference, EqWest, and the American Riding Instructors’ Association. Her articles appear in over 70 different publications and web sites.

MORE Equine Law & Horse Sense is a paperback, 250 pages, available from Horses & The Law Publishing. For more information, call 1-248-644-8645.
