Holly Ferguson made a critical steal and Colleen Gregory tossed in a key basket to lead Charter Communications (8-12) to a 44-43 win over NH&F (6-14) in the final week of the regular season for the Newtown Health & Fitness Women’s Basketball League.

Ferguson finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds and six steals while Gregory finished with 13 points and five boards. Laura Cook and Laura Denis combined for 12 points, with Denis pulling down 10 rebounds. For NH&F, Janet Duffy scored 12 points and had three rebounds. Mel Darrah and Lisa Bigham each dropped in 10 points and combined for four rebounds and four steals. Leslie Trudell had five points while Sharon McCarthy and Joan Plavnicky each contributed three points while combining for 15 boards.

Imagine This (19-1) stomped on Pizza Palace (13-7), 81-39, as Shelby Neveriski scored 39 points with 14 rebounds, four steals and four assists. Kelly Fegler dropped in 20 points with five rebounds, five blocked shots and five steals. Suzanne Marsan added 12 points as Amy Mangold, Sherri Baggett and Bonnie Willie combined for 10 points. For Pizza Palace, Michelle Smith scored 18 points with four rebounds. Karen Powell and Jackie Candee each had eight points and combined for nine rebounds, six steals, one assist and one blocked shot.

Walsh Logging (11-9) pulled out another close game, defeating Newtown Mobil (3-17) 48-47. Ruth Rowe scored 16 points and had a couple of steals and played strong defense to help pull out the victory. Joann Duncanson added 14 points and six rebounds, Megan LaCava scored 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Pat McCullough and Doris Ratner each contributed four points. For Newtown Mobil, Charlotte DuBail had a strong game with 20 points (including a pair of three-pointers). Karen Katrinak added 15 points and three blocked shots while Carolyn Bernardi had her strongest game of the season with eight points and tough defense.

In the playoffs, Imagine This and Pizza Palace earned a bye. Walsh Logging will square off against Newtown Mobil while Charter Communications will take on NH&F. Imagine This will play the winner of the Walsh/Mobil game while Pizza Palace will play the winner of the Charter/NH&F game. The league championship will tip off April 22 at 6:30 pm.
