Hospital Programs On HRT And Arthritis Of The Hip

DANBURY –– A special Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meeting will discuss hormone replacement therapy (HRT) as it relates to breast and endrometrial cancer on Tuesday, April 8, from 7 to 8:30 pm, at the hospital auditorium, 24 Hospital Avenue.

The program, “Get The Facts On Women & Cancer,” will explain the Women’s Health Initiative study on HRT. Featured speakers will be Dr Howard Blanchette, chairman of the hospital’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, a member of the hospital’s Gynecological Cancer Tumor Board and the Danbury Office of Physician Services, PC; Dr Thampu Kumar, chief of benign gynecology and gynecological oncology and a member of the tumor board, and a practicing physician at 57 North Street; and Dr John McGrade, an attending physician in the hospital’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and a practicing physician and infertility specialist with Candlewood Center for Women’s Health, 103 Newtown Road. Patrice Hough, manager of the Praxair Cancer Center will facilitate the evening program.

A Medical Town Meeting discussing “Innovations In Treating Arthritis Of The Hip” will be conducted on Tuesday, April 22, from 7 to 8:30 pm, in the hospital auditorium.

Featured speakers will be Dr Robert Deveney, an attending physician in the hospital’s Department of Surgery, Section of Orthopedic Surgery, and Lisa Sohonyay, registered nurse and orthopedic case coordinator, will address new conservative and nonoperative options for treating arthritis of the hip, new medications, physical rehabilitation, and new surgical techniques in total hip replacement.

Ample time will be provided for audience questions. Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meetings are free monthly health and wellness programs open to the public. No RSVP is required. Prize drawings and light refreshments also will be provided. Park free in the Blue Visitor’s Parking Lot, Hospital Avenue entrance.
