Suspension

Police said they received a report that a motorist was driving erratically on South Main Street on the afternoon of March 29, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they stopped motorist Mark Manley, 37, of 265 South Main Street to investigate and then charged him with driving while under suspension. Police released Manley on a written promise to appear April 11 in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Charge

Police said that early on the morning of March 30, they observed a driver’s vehicle weaving while traveling on Church Hill Road, so they stopped it to investigate.

Police then charged motorist Michael Barbour, 19, of 11 Schoolhouse Hill Road with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

After processing, police released Barbour on $50 bail for an April 16 court appearance.

Firebird

While driving a 1987 Pontiac Firebird on Lakeview Terrace about 5:44 am March 5, motorist James Callahan, 39, of 121 Lakeview Terrace made a left turn and collided with a street sign on Lakeview Terrace Extension, police said. Callahan was not injured. Police said they verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

Flagpole Intersection

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the hazardous intersection of Main Street, West Street, and Church Hill Road about 3 pm March 25.

Motorist David Martinez, 37, of Bethel, who was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck eastward on West Street, attempted to make a right turn onto southbound Main Street and collided with motorist Evan Roxburgh, 59, of Stamford, who was driving a 1974 Cadillac Coupe DeVille southward on Main Street, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Martinez for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Chevrolet Vs Dodge

About 8:08 am March 24, motorist Wendy Mitchell, 38, of 70 South Main Street, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer, pulled out of the driveway at that address to head northward on South Main Street but collided with a southbound 2000 Dodge Intrepid driven by Evan Keefer, 64, of Ridgefield, police said. Police said they issued Mitchell an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Harassment

Police said they charged an 11-year-old boy with second-degree harassment on March 28, following an investigation. The case involves the youth allegedly making harassing telephone calls, police said. Police said they released the boy on a written promise to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on April 7. Because the accused person is under age 18, his identity is shielded from public disclosure by state law.

 

I-84 DUI

State police said they spotted motorist Ramiro Duran, 29, of Danbury driving erratically on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 1:30 am March 25, so they stopped Duran to investigate.

State police said Duran failed sobriety tests, after which they charged Duran with driving under the influence and with failure to stay in the established lane.

State police said they held Duran on $1,000 bail for a court appearance later that day.

Rollover

State police report that motorist Kadine V. Barakat, 22, of Hartford was driving a 2002 Honda Accord eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, about 10:27 pm March 27, when Barakat lost control of the auto, went off the left side of the road and entered the median, where the vehicle rolled over multiple times.

Newtown ambulance volunteers transported Barakat for hospital treatment of head injuries, state police said.

Hawleyville firefighters went to the accident. State police verbally warned Barakat for failure to drive in the established lane.

Vehicular Violations

Police report they stopped driver Eric Williams, 30, of Shelton for a commercial vehicle inspection on Berkshire Road about 11 am March 28.

Police said they charged Williams with driving while under suspension and with driving an unregistered vehicle.

Additionally, police said they charged the vehicle’s owner, Summit Construction of Shelton, with misuse of marker plates, failure to have an emergency breakaway device on a trailer, failure to post required Department of Transportation information, and with a window tinting violation

Larceny

Police said they charged Zachary Gaberel, 18, of 14 Lone Oak Meadows with sixth-degree larceny on the afternoon of March 31 at Newtown High School. Police allege that Gaberel stole a digital music player from another student there. After processing, police released Gaberel on a written promise to appear in court on April 10.

Berkshire Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Berkshire Road about 8:40 am March 28.

Eastbound motorist Gregory Jurman, 21, of 21 Pebble Road, who was driving a 2002 Volvo S-60 sedan, slowed in order to make a left turn into a commercial driveway at 51 Berkshire Road, police said.

Eastbound motorist Henry Torres, 33, of Bethel, who was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima sedan, then struck the Volvo from behind, police said. There were no injuries.

Torres received a written warning for following too closely.

 

Moving Violations

Police said that at about 5:40 pm March 31, they stopped motorist Joseph Gargano, 65, of 42 Currituck Road because the vehicle that he was driving had an invalid registration.

After investigating, police charged Gargano with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and with driving without automotive insurance.

Police released Gargano on a written promise to appear in court on April 15.

Trucks Collide

An accident involving two trucks occurred about 1:50 pm on March 28 at the intersection of South Main Street, Meadow Brook Road, and Botsford Hill Road.

Police said that the exterior right rear-view mirror of a 2002 Mitsubishi bakery truck driven by David Currier, 43, of Windsor collided with the exterior left rear-view mirror of a 1999 Volvo tractor-trailer truck driven by Jose DeOliveira, 43, of Danbury. The collision occurred on southbound South Main Street, police said.

There were no injuries. Currier received a written warning for improper passing, police said.

Moving Violations

Police report that on April 1 they issued motorist Timothy Barnes, 19, of New Fairfield two moving violations. Police said that Barnes was traveling unreasonably fast and was driving while under suspension. Police released Barnes on a written promise to appear April 11 in Danbury Superior Court.
