Occupation: I work for A New Beginning Salon and Day Spa in Bethel, doing the social media and marketing. I’m also delighted to be a homemaker.

Family: I’ve been married to Chris Winans since 1991. Our daughter, Grace, is 18 and at UConn in the Business School. Our son, Peter, 15, is a sophomore at Newtown High School.

Pets: We have Mr Biz — a rescue dog from the Amanda Connection in Newtown. He’s a rat terrier mix, a little, old deaf dog that thinks he is a big dog. He is somewhere between 12 and 15 years old, and we’ve had him a long time.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We moved here in 2005 from New Fairfield, because I was looking for a neighborhood full of kids, playing outside, and we found it in Sandy Hook. We love our neighborhood.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m very active in Newtown Action Alliance, promoting public safety. As of March 26, my favorite thing to do is playing dodgeball on the trampoline at Sky Zone in Bethel. I ride bike, I kayak, and I’m an avid reader. I love learning about social media.

Do you have a favorite book? The book I just finished is The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I loved that book. And every February, I reread Pride and Prejudice. It’s a timeless story about how we just can’t get out of our own ways, sometimes.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I love cities. Last summer, we went to London. It’s my new favorite city. I love the history there, and how they blend the old with the new. The modern architecture is just as spectacular as the older buildings.

What is the best thing about Newtown? The first thing I fell in love with when we moved her was the book sale. Then, I fell in love with the library. The best thing about Newtown, though, is the people, and the response and resiliency to what happened 12/14.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My mother, Helen. She’s been gone 18 years. She raised us to live a full life and to serve the greater good. She taught us to surround ourselves with people who don’t always think like us, to create lifelong learning opportunities.

Do you have a personal philosophy? We’re doers, not watchers. Doers have more fun!

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Netflix.
