Woman’s Club Food Drive, April 14

On Saturday, April 14, from 9 am until 4 pm, Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc, will be conducting a townwide food collection at Super Stop & Shop in Sand Hill Plaza, 228 Main Street South. The food drive will benefit both the Social Services Food Pantry and FAITH Food Pantry, both of which serve residents of Newtown.

This food collection is being held to commemorate Federation Day 2007. Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc, is one of 50 statewide clubs, and one of more than 6,500 clubs in the United States and 20 countries dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service. The General Federation of Woman’s Clubs, with headquarters in Washington, D.C., is the world’s largest and oldest women’s service organizations. Since April 20, 1897, GFWC of Connecticut members have supported the arts, worked to preserve natural resources, promoted education, encouraged healthy lifestyles, and stressed civic involvement.

Shoppers are invited to drop off donations — either something extra that was picked up during regular grocery shopping, or perhaps something purchased in advance that won’t be used before its expiration date. Club members will be on hand to accept all donations and to give their thanks to residents helping others.
