The recently-rebuilt Meadowbrook Road bridge will close temporarily next week, when crews will return for the installation of permanent asphalt pavement.

Newtown Public Works Director Fred Hurley confirmed this week that plans are on track for the temporary closure. Crews are expected to arrive Monday morning, April 10, to begin the final step on the replacement of the bridge.

“The crews are ready to go,” Hurley said April 5. “Plans are in place, as scheduled, and we’ll have detour signs in place including the light-up message board.”

The bridge has been open for single lane alternating use since February.

Meadowbrook had been closed to through-traffic between its intersections with Washbrook and Huntingtown roads between last July, when the replacement project began, and February, when the bridge installation was completed. The new bridge was opened at that time for single lane alternating use.

Next week’s closure was timed in large part to coincide with the reopening of asphalt plants for the season.

Hurley fully expects the work to be done by end of day April 14 if not sooner.
