DANBURY, WATERBURY— The Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) NVCC Foundation Board of Directors, in collaboration with President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, established the NVCC Foundation COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund to assist NVCC students struggling with financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as recently announced by the college. The intention of this fund is to help meet the immediate needs of NVCC students during this crisis so they can experience peace of mind and academic success.

De Filippis commented on the foundation’s proactive generosity and campus engagement.

“I am particularly grateful to the NVCC Foundation for their support of our students and colleagues who are busy preparing grant proposals in support of access and equity at NVCC's two campuses. Thank you as well to all those who have reached out to me with words of encouragement and question. The NVCC family is strong, smart and generous,” De Filippis said.

NVCC also recently announced it is implementing pass/fail options for classes to complete its spring semester. NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., informed students and faculty that because of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak and the transition to online education, all Connecticut community college students will have the option to convert any and all of the letter grades earned during the spring 2020 semester to credit/no credit grading — also known as pass/fail.

NVCC students have until June 1, 2020, to make this decision. Opting for pass/fail will not impact a student’s grade point average, and credits earned will eligible for transfer to the state universities through the Transfer and Articulation Policy.

The full procedures the college will use for the pass/fail system, as well as the form students should use to opt-in are available on the virtual resources page at nv.edu/virtualsupport.

Students who choose to pursue the pass/fail option will need to fill out the form, obtain the electronic signature of their course instructor, and submit the form to the registrar’s office at records@nv.edu.
