Nighthawk Laxmen Show No Rust, Pile Up 23 Goals In Shutout

At least according to the scoreboard — a 23-0 triumph at Immaculate of Danbury in the season opener on April 13 — Newtown High School’s boys’ lacrosse team showed no signs of rust, despite seeing a bulk of the team quarantined for coronavirus protocol for most of the preseason.

Brandon Manka had four goals and three assists, Tanner Trede notched three goals and three assists, Ryan Ruddy had two goals and two assists, Will Wallace logged four goals, and Jake Bulkley tallied two goals and two assists.

Austin Cameron had a goal and an assist. Fisher Stites, Matt Jacobs, and Wiley Harris each had two goals, and Tyler DiMartino and Sam Steare both had a goal.

Stites and Daniel Jaeger combined to win 17 of 24 faceoffs, and Trede, Shaine Luzietti, Stites, and Bulkley all recorded five ground balls. Goaltender Jake Dandrea had five saves.
