Inspire The Next Generation To Meet Their Moment

To The Editor:

This is how we stand up for our families, our neighbors, and our country. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed and carrying a knot in your stomach since fall of 2024, you’re not alone. And we are not powerless. Getting involved now, right here in Newtown, can make a huge difference in how we get to live our lives. I know, so dramatic but, as the kids say, “hear me out.”

I’m talking about voting. More specifically about engaging now in the race for our State Representative Seat.

Some people assume that Connecticut is “too blue” for their vote to matter. Others feel that even when our State Rep takes positions like voting against reproductive care for all without the fear of being prosecuted by their home state, (HB5414) Mitch Bolinsky can’t hurt us much because the legislative majority will stand up for these women. It's easy to think that the seat doesn't matter much.

But it does. We have an opportunity with this election not just to fill a seat. It's a chance to use our vote to inspire the next generation to step forward, participate and even consider public service themselves. In my opinion, one of the candidates is far more likely to have this type of impact on the next generation by showing, not just telling them how to meet this Moment. Our "kids" need guidance in shaping the world they'll inherit and Brandon Moore is already doing this.

We can affect change. Starting with this Monday 7pm at the NCC. Hear from both Democratic candidates. Democrats and Unaffiliated voters are welcome. Next, participate in the Caucus in May, you'll need to be a Registered Democrat but "Unaffiliated" wishing to participate have time to make the change. Please also encourage young people turning 18 by November to attend!
