To The Editor:

The election for State Representative of the 106th District is months away. Still, to plant a seed of interest now is timely.

In a world where politicians wear the garb of arrogance and grandstanding, Newtown is fortunate to have Michelle Embree Ku running for the 106th seat. Her smart, unassuming manner will be a benefit to our town.

I met her parents, Lea Embree and the late Allen Embree, before I met Michelle. She struck me from our first meeting as a serene personality, a thoughtful listener, and as kind a person as the couple who raised her. Over the years, I have encountered her personally and professionally, and have been impressed by her strong sense of community.

Looking out for her fellow townspeople has been her MO since she and her family moved here 16 years ago. Michelle has since supported Newtown in ways that make a difference.

An eight-year stint on the Board of Education began in 2013, four of them as Chair; Michelle was here when Newtown endured its worst moment in history, and worked to see that schools addressed the unique needs of educators and students. A former member of the Legislative Council and currently serving on the Board of Selectmen, she demonstrates skills required to take Newtown’s concerns to the state level.

Scientist, mother, neighbor — Michelle knows how to prepare when faced with decisions and knows how to move ideas forward. Her experience locally and at state level makes this hard worker ideal for State Representative.

I have confidence in encouraging voters to make Michelle Embree Ku their choice to represent the 106th District when election day rolls around.
