Kia Versus Audi

Newtown Police report Barbara Summo, 61, of Southbury, operating a 2018 Kia Forte, was on Pole Bridge Road, attempting a right turn onto Berkshire Road, at 7:55 am March 27. Nancy Gruskin, 67, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Audi Q3, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road. Police say the front passenger side bumper of Summo’s vehicle struck the rear passenger side of Gruskin’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

Exited Driveway, Hit Car

Newtown Police report Cristin Messinger, 40, of Bethel, operating a 2021 Ford Explorer, was attempting to turn left into the northbound travel lane from a driveway on Mt Pleasant Road at 4:49 pm March 31. Sincere Hawkins, 23, of Temple Hills, Md., was traveling southbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Police say the front bumper of Messinger’s vehicle struck the rear right end of Hawkins’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Messinger was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way from a private road or driveway.

Collision At Red Rooster

Newtown Police report Andrea Farley, 66, of Newtown, operating a 2023 Kia Sportage, was making a left turn out of Red Rooster Pub on South Main Street at 5:54 pm April 3. Matthew Mozelak, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2008 Audi A4, was traveling on South Main Street. Farley’s vehicle struck Mozelak’s vehicle as it was passing, causing minor damage. Following the collision, Farley backed up her vehicle and the front bumper came off.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action is mentioned in the report.

Four Car Collision

Newtown Police report Mark Noonan, 44, of Salisbury Mills, N.Y., operating a 2007 BMW 328IS, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 8:43 am April 4. Linda DeLeo, 73, of Bethel, operating a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, was stopped in traffic in the southbound lane on Main Street, in the area of 13 Main Street. Rosalie Wiggins, 57, of Bridgeport, operating a 2014 Hyundai Elantra, was stopped behind DeLeo, and Aryana Patricio, 22, of Danbury, operating a 2023 Subaru Impreza, was stopped behind Wiggins. Police say Noonan failed to stop and the front end of his vehicle made contact with the rear end of Patricio’s vehicle, which was pushed forward into Wiggins vehicle, which in turn was pushed forward into DeLeo’s vehicle.

Patricio reported a possible injury, but the report does not mention if she was transported to an area hospital. Noonan’s and Patricio’s vehicles were towed.

Noonan was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Took Foot Off Brake

Newtown Police report George Trudell, 60, of Bethel, operating a 2018 Jeep Cherokee, was traveling northbound on Trades Lane at 11:29 am April 4. He was traveling behind a 2022 Kia Sorento operated by Mary Conway, 59, of Sandy Hook. Police say Conway stopped at a traffic signal and Trudell stopped behind her. Trudell took his foot off the brake and the front end of his vehicle made contact with the rear end of Conway’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Trudell was issued a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Restricted Turn

Newtown Police report Natmir Selmani, 32, of Goshen, operating a 2014 Nissan Rogue, was traveling southbound on Edmond Road at the intersection of Church Hill Road at 3:11 pm April 4. Carl Gehring, 64, of Bethel, operating a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling northbound on Commerce Road at the intersection of Church Hill Road. Police say Selmani entered the intersection with Church Hill Road in a failed attempt to turn left. Gehring entered the same intersection in an attempt to continue to travel northbound onto Edmond Road. The front right corner of Selmani’s vehicle made contact with the front end of Gehring’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Selmani was issued a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Following Too Close

Autumn Rogers, 23, of Stratford, operating a 2022 Hyundai Accent, was traveling southbound on Hattertown Road at 4:28 pm April 4. She was traveling behind a 2015 Nissan Altima operated by Ram Gorugantu, 33, of Newtown. Gorugantu stopped to wait for northbound traffic to pass with the intention to turn left onto Boggs Hill Road, and Rogers’ vehicle hit his vehicle from behind.

Rogers was evaluated by Newtown EMS for possible injuries but declined transport. Neither vehicle was towed.

Rogers was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Hit Parked Car

Jennifer Harris, 44, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2001 Toyota Corolla, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 4:31 pm April 4. An unoccupied 2020 Volvo XC90 owned by Alaina Lawrence of New Milford was parked on the westbound shoulder of Church Hill Road, completely off the travel portion of the roadway. Police say Harris made a sudden turn to the right and the right side of his vehicle made contact with the left side of Lawrence’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Harris was issued a verbal warning for failing to drive in the established lane.

Struck Stopping For Traffic

Newtown Police report Gianna Routhier, 19, of Prospect, operating a 2009 Subaru Forester, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 8 am April 4. She was traveling behind a 2005 Buick Century operated by Angela Toth, 22, of Shelton. Toth stopped for traffic and the front bumper of Routhier’s vehicle struck the rear bumper of Toth’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Routhier was issued a written warning for following too close.

Rolled Vehicle

Newtown Police report Oneka Henry, 19, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., operating a 2013 Nissan Sentra, was traveling eastbound on Botsford Hill Road at 9:47 pm April 6. As she approached a sharp left curve in the road, Henry told police that another non-collision vehicle traveling southbound came close to her lane of travel, causing her to drive close to the right shoulder of the roadway on the curve. The vehicle rolled over onto its roof.

Henry was treated on scene for an injury but declined transport to Danbury Hospital.

Henry was verbally warned for failure to maintain the proper lane.

No Registration, No Insurance

Newtown Police report Gregory Espinal, 37, of Danbury, was arrested at 7:45 pm April 10 on the charges of operating an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of marker plates, and illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of April 25.
