According to information received from Captain Christopher M. Vanghele of the Newtown Police Department, police reports, factoring out Building Checks (which increased in 2020), from March 1 to April 16, 2020, showed a 48 percent decrease from that period of time in 2019.

Minor MVAs

Police report 13 minor motor vehicle accidents with no reported injuries, including two deer strikes and three evasions, occurred between April 1-17, 2020.

Abandoned Dirt Bike

On April 17, at approximately 3 pm, a resident of Narragansett Trail reported suspicious activity. When police arrived, a 2008 Honda CR250r dirt bike was found abandoned in the roadway. It is possible the bike was stolen.

Anyone with information should contact the Newtown Police Department at 203-426-5841.

Bumper To Bumper

Newtown Police report that a F250 Ford truck driven by Joseph James Bartlett of Monroe, was traveling southbound on Currituck Road at the Main Street intersection, Saturday, April 11, at 1:11 pm, when he stopped for a stop sign, accelerated, then stopped again for oncoming traffic.

Patricia A. Garofalo of Danbury, driving a 2006 Jeep Cherokee, was also traveling southbound on Currituck Road, directly behind the truck, and was unable to stop. The front bumper of the Jeep made contact with the rear bumper of the Ford.

Garofalo was given a verbal warning for Failure to Drive a Reasonable Distance Apart.

Rainy Back End Bump

Eleanor Bain of Southbury came to Newtown Police Headquarters on March 29, at 2:33 pm, to report that the Honda Odyssey EX she had been driving southbound on Edmond Road had struck the back end of a vehicle stopped at the red traffic control light at the Church Hill Road intersection. That driver provided her with only limited information before leaving the scene.

Police were unable to investigate the motor vehicle accident, but retrieved the second vehicle’s information and found that the Mercedes-Benz GLC 43 had been operated by Bradley James Manning of Cheshire.

Manning told police he had left the scene because it was raining.

No injuries were reported.
