Newtown musician and music educator Jim Allyn has announced the date of the next Saturday Night Open Mic For Newtown Youth: May 3.

The May event will shift its start time by 30 minutes, beginning at 7:30 instead of 7 pm. It will run until 9:15.

Poets, jugglers, singers, comics, musicians and other entertainers are all invited to share their talents during the event, which will again be in The Great Room at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.

Suggested donation is $1.

Adult family members attending are invited to bring a drink or snack to share. All ages are welcome to attend the fun community event.

Sign up starts at 7:15 pm. There is no early sign-up before 7:15, however doors will be open by 7 for those who wish to wait in line to sign up. There are spaces for about 20 performers so the time limit per spot is about five minutes.  Sign-up is first come, first serve.

Microphones, keyboard, guitar amp and more will be available. Live music only please.

Youth under grade six must have a parent or guardian present.

All ages are welcome as audience members.
