Newtown High School’s softball team made it ten for ten to start the spring, shutting out a trio of opponents in succession, and in ultra dominant fashion — 17-0 at Bethel on April 19, then 24-0 at Joel Barlow of Redding the next day, and 22-0 at New Fairfield on April 24. All of these games were five inning, mercy-rule outcomes.

In the win over Bethel, Rachel Casagrande hit a pair of home runs and drove in five runs and Sydney Adolfson also homered. Sofia Caruso had three hits, including a pair of doubles, drove in a run, and scored a run. Gabby Ansman had two hits, drove in a run, and scored three runs. Pitcher Maddie Thoesen allowed just two hits and struck out 11 in her five innings of work.

Against Barlow, Bri Pellicone had five hits, including two doubles and a triple, drove in three, and scored five runs. Thoesen provided three hits, including a homer, drove in three, and scored four runs. Caroline Gardner doubled, drove in four, and scored three runs. Noelle Marrazzo logged three hits, including a double, drove in three, and scored a run. Caitlin Milks had a pair of RBI and scored twice. Gardner was in the pitcher’s circle; she allowed four hits and fanned seven.

Newtown was homer happy against New Fairfield. Addison Cordova had four hits, including a pair of dingers, and drove in seven runs.
