A Successful Raffle
To the Editor:
The Newtown Historical Society would like to thank all those who supported our recently concluded raffle. Without your help our endeavor would not have achieved the significant total of $2,455 to be added to our replace-the-roof funds. Three prizes were won by Newtown residents, one by a Southbury resident whose family home was in Newtown, and one by an out-of-state resident whose father purchased the ticket; to all who bought one or more chances, thank you.
We would also like to thank those who helped in other ways: first and foremost, the group of Newtown women, the Sew Together Gals, whose 700 hours of dedicated labor created the wonderful quilt that served as our first prize. Other prizes donated included a mirror from Tucker Frey Antiques in Woodbury, and artwork from David Merrill and Ben Palagonia. We owe our appreciation to the C.H. Booth Library and the Drug Center, both of which sold tickets for us. Thanks also to Dunkinâ Donuts, Tom Mahoney at Edmond Town Hall, Bob Hall, the General Store, and Stop & Shop for allowing us to use their locations as selling venues. The Bee gave us much needed publicity. Without all these contributions the project would simply not have flown.
It is truly a pleasure to be part of a community so supportive of efforts to improve the townâs resources.
Sincerely,
John Renjilian
