Sandy Hook Collision

Motorist Kaleb Hazen, 22, of Amherst, N.H., was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier westward on Route 34 at about 6:50 pm April 26, when motorist Nicholas Ceretta, 17, of 6 Leopard Drive, who was driving a 1997 Chrysler Concorde, pulled out of Bennetts Bridge Road, cutting off the Chevrolet, police said.

The Chevrolet swerved to avoid hitting the Chrysler, but the Chevrolet landed in a ditch, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Ceretta a written warning for failure to grant the right of way after making a stop.

Hawleyville Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Michael Galenski, 43, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 1999 Ford van, on the Exit 9 off-ramp of westbound Interstate 84 at about 2 pm April 19, because police believed that the vehicle was unregistered.

Police charged Galenski with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving under suspension, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police released Galenski on a $500 bond for a May 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Motorcycle Accident

Robert Emmons, 45, of Bethel was driving a 1993 Cadillac Seville southward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Johnnie Cake Lane, about 3:30 pm April 27, when he passed and struck a 1991 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Pierre Cruz, 31, of New Haven, police said.

The motorcycle fell over in the crash and was totaled, police said. Cruz refused medical attention, police said.

After the impact, Emmons continued traveling southward without stopping, police said. Another motorcyclist, who was traveling with Cruz, provided police with a description of the offending vehicle.

Police spotted the Cadillac on Queen Street and then stopped Emmons to investigate. Police arrested Emmons on charges of driving under the influence, evading responsibility, improper passing, and driving without automotive insurance.

After booking Emmons on the charges, police relapsed him from custody on a $250 bond for a May 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Hawleyville Accident

Motorist Scott Blessing, 22, of Danbury, who was driving a 1994 Toyota sedan about 2 am April 25 on the Exit 9 off-ramp of westbound Interstate 84, fell asleep at the wheel, drifted off the road, and struck a tree, state police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Blessing to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a shoulder injury, state police said. Blessing received an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to drive in the established lane, state police said.

Tractor-Trailer

Motorist Jay Breines, 55, of Northampton, Mass., who was driving a 2001 Subaru Forester sport-utility vehicle eastward in the right lane of three lanes on Interstate 84, near the Exit 11 on-ramp at about 6:30 pm April 21, was merging from the ending right lane into the center lane, when the Subaru collided with a tractor-trailer truck in the center lane driven by Dan Craft, 50, of Catlettsburg, Ky., state police said.

There were no injuries. State police warned Breines for making an unsafe lane change.

Deer Rollover

Motorist Gretchen Reinheimer, 40, of Blauvelt, N.Y., was driving a 1999 Toyota RAV-4 sport-utility vehicle westward in the left lane of Interstate 84, between exits 9 and 8 at about 9 am April 21, when a deer ran in front of the vehicle, state police said.

The Toyota swerved to avoid the deer but rolled over, state police said. Reinheimer was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked for neck pain, state police said. No enforcement was taken.

 

Route 34 MVA

Police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Route 34 at its intersection with Toddy Hill Road at 3:18 pm April 29.

Motorist Carolyn St Pierre, 35, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1989 Ford Tempo, was stopped at a traffic signal, when she was struck from behind by motorist Sarah McKeon, 18, of 10 Sleepy Hollow Road, who was driving a 1990 Jeep Cherokee, police said. There were no injuries.

 Police issued McKeon a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police charged St Pierre with driving under suspension and driving without automotive insurance.
