Motorcycle Accident

Police report that at about 4:10 pm on April 25, motorcyclist John Allen, 58, of Shelton was riding a 2010 Victory V-10 eastward on Berkshire Road, as motorist Pastor Estrada, 59, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2001 Saturn SC-1 coupe, was attempting to make a left turn out from a driveway at 44 Berkshire Road onto westbound Berkshire Road.

The two vehicles collided. Allen, who was not wearing a helmet, received a head injury in the collision and was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said.

Police said they issued Estrada an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Property Damage

Police reported on April 25 that an unknown motor vehicle, possibly a pickup truck, struck and damaged a curbside residential mailbox at 20 Taunton Lake Road and then left the scene. The address is near the Newtown Fish & Game Club's boat launch. The front driver's side of the vehicle may be damaged, police said. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at the police station.

Two Charges

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Alicia Lynn Capozziello, 18, of 15 Botsford Hill Road  turned herself over to police at the police station about 4:20 pm on April 27 and was charged with third-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny, police report.

Police said the matter involves the theft/forgery of a check. Police received a complaint on the matter on April 2.

After processing the case on April 27, police released Capozziello on a written promise to appear in court on May 9.

Items Missing

Police said they are investigating two items reported missing from a Kale Davis Road residential property. Sometime between April 24 and April 26, a child's yellow, metal pedal car went missing from the property, police said.

Also, sometime in January, a mezuzah went missing, police said. A mezuzah is a Jewish religious symbol.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incidents to contact Officer Felicia Figol at the police station.

DUI Incident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Washington Avenue, Riverside Road, Glen Road, and Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center about 12:49 am on April 28.

Police said motorist M. Hidalgo, 42, of 184 Sugar Street, who was driving a 1998 Dodge 1500 pickup truck northward on Washington Avenue, stopped at a red traffic signal at the intersection.

Northbound motorist Brandon Gesualdi, 18, of 3 Papoose Hill Road, who was driving a 2006 Ford Taurus sedan, then struck the rear end of the Dodge, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said that after investigating, they charged Gesualdi with driving under the influence under age 21, illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Gesualdi is scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges.

SUV Vs Minivan

Police said the responded to a two-vehicle accident near 144 Sugar Street at 3:21 pm on April 27.

Motorist Thomas Giroux, 48, of Southbury, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Sienna minivan eastward on Sugar Street, stopped near the driveway for 144 Sugar Street, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by eastbound motorist George Michael Dance, 34, of Redding, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer SUV, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Dance an infraction for following too closely.

Audi Vs Chevy

A two-vehicle accident took place at the intersection of South Main Street and Orchard Hill Road about 8 pm on April 26.

Police said motorist Rachel Berman, 23, of 14 Pond Brook Road, who was driving a 1999 Audi southward on South Main Street, turned right onto Orchard Hill Road and then made a U-turn in attempting to reenter South Main Street.

That maneuver resulted in the Audi colliding with motorist John Hughes, 49, of Monroe, who had been driving a 2006 Chevrolet sedan southward on South Main Street behind the Audi, police said.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital, police said. Enforcement action is pending against Berman, police said.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle chain reaction accident occurred near 32 Berkshire Road at about 8:26 pm on April 22. All vehicles were traveling eastward when the accident occurred.

In that incident, motorist Andrew Lambo, 27, of 8 Country Squire Road, who was driving a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, struck the rear end of a 2007 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Donna Bazin Giles, 55, of 4 Somerset Lane, police said. That impact pushed the Honda into the rear end of a 2012 GMC Acadia SUV driven by John Karcher, 45, of Monroe, police said.

The accident resulted in injuries to Lambo and to Julie Karcher, 40, who was a passenger in the GMC, police said.

Police report they issued Lambo an infraction for following too closely. Police said they gave Giles an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Evading

State police said motorist Moira Collier, 23, of 8 Smoke Rise Ridge was driving a Subaru Outback on the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84 early on the morning of April 29, when the vehicle went out of control and went off the ramp, damaging a length of guardcabling.

Collier then left the scene of the accident, state police said.

State police said they located her and charged her with evading responsibility and with failure to drive in the proper lane. Collier is scheduled for a May 13 court appearance, state police said.

Exit 11

State police said that motorist Malti Rana, 53, of 23 Toddy Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Dodge Caravan minivan on Interstate 84's Exit 11 off-ramp at about 6 pm on April 26, struck the rear end of a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox SUV driven by Kathy Miller, 53, of Milford.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Motorcycle Vs SUV

Police report that motorcyclist Cecil Helton, Jr, 50, of Ansonia was riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson FLTR, which was carrying a passenger, northward near 112 South Main Street behind a northbound 2011 Honda Pilot SUV driven by Cheryl Cody, 35, of Trumbull at about 1:46 pm on April 28, when the Honda stopped for traffic conditions, after which the motorcycle drove into the rear end of the Honda.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Helton a written warning for following too closely.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, David Villarreal, 24, of 19 Currituck Road went to the police station at about 10:30 pm on April 28 and turned himself over to police, after which they charged him with violation of probation.

Police said a judge issued the warrant on April 4 after learning that Villarreal had violated the terms of his probation by driving a motor vehicle when he had a suspended driver's license.

Police said they released Villarreal on $5,000 bail for a May 14 court appearance.

Road Rage

According to police, they received a call about 5:23 pm on April 29 reporting to them that an incident of road rage had occurred on Forest Drive in the Riverside section, after which they investigated.

Police report they went to the home of Brian Haag, 40, of 43 Riverside Road to investigate and then charged Haag with disorderly conduct and third-degree criminal mischief.

After processing the charges, police released Haag on $100 bail for a May 14 court appearance.

Beer Incident

Police report that at about 6:14 pm on April 30, employees at Caraluzzi's Newtown Market at 5 Queen Street saw Colleen Faith Ryan, 18, of 65 Toddy Hill Road take two six-packs of beer from the store without paying for them.

Police said that the Caraluzzi's employees followed Ryan and called police to alert them of the situation. Police said they found Ryan near 46 Church Hill Road and charged her with sixth-degree larceny.

Ryan was released on $100 bail for a May 14 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

 Rollover/Fire

Police report an incident about 7 pm on April 27 at Fairfield Hills in which a pickup truck which had been traveling on a field rolled over and then caught fire.

Police said that when they arrived at the scene, a 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck was engulfed in flames. The person who had been driving the vehicle was not injured, police said. Four police responded.

Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters responded to put out the blaze.

In connection with the incident, police arrested two youths under age 18 on charges of third-degree criminal trespassing. Additional details on the incident were not available.

Both juveniles were released into the custody of their parents for May 6 appearances in Danbury Juvenile Court. Police did not disclose the offenders' identities due to their age.
