Currituck Road

Motorist Jason Labrozzi, 23, of 16 Willowbrook Lane, who was driving a 2011 Subaru Legacy sedan northward on Currituck Road at about 8 am on May 1, came to a stop on the road shoulder near Currituck Road’s intersection with Brennan Road, police said.

The Subaru then began to make a left turn to enter a driveway, but a northbound 2004 Pontiac Vibe SUV driven by Rocco Marrone, 62, of Milford struck the rear end of the Subaru, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Labrozzi a written warning for making an unsafe movement from a stopped position.

Shoplifting

Police report they received a call from the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street about 2 pm on April 26, reporting an alleged incident of shoplifting there.

Police said they went to the store to investigate and charged Robert Long, 79, of Southbury with sixth-degree larceny for allegedly stealing multiple pieces of merchandise from the store.

After processing, Long was released on a written promise to appear on May 8 in Danbury Superior Court.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant against her, Emily Howard, 31, of 53 Schoolhouse Hill Road went to the police station on April 26 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction and with allowing a dog to roam.

In a December 7, 2011, incident, Howard was issued a dog violation ticket, but did not respond to it, so police obtained the warrant, which now requires the Howard to make a court appearance to settle the matter.

Police released Howard on $92 bail for a May 15 court appearance.

Moving Violations

Police report that they were using radar speed-monitoring equipment on Berkshire Road, near Lone Oak Meadow Road, about 7:10 am on April 28, when they spotted motorist Brett Middleton, 44, of Norwalk driving 70 miles per hour in a 40-mph zone.

Police said they stopped Middleton to investigate and then lodged charges of speeding and driving with a suspended license.

Police released Middletown on a written promise to appear on May 8 in Danbury Superior Court.

Arrest Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Travor Stuart, 24, of Warren turned himself over to police at the police station at about 6:30 am on April 30, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, first-degree criminal trespassing, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault, evading responsibility, and driving with a suspended registration, police report.

Police said the various charges stem from an incident that occurred in May 2011. Police held Stuart on $5,000 bail for an appearance that day in Danbury Superior Court.

Criminal Charges

Police said that on April 27, they arrested on a warrant William Beck, 31, at Danbury Superior Court, charging him with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, and second-degree criminal mischief.

Beck’s arrest stems from automobile burglaries that occurred last November 14 in Newtown, police said. Beck pleaded not guilty to the three charges at his April 27 arraignment. He is scheduled to return to court on May 15.

Beck was being held this week at the New Haven Correctional Center on $205,000 bail overall in connection with multiple pending criminal charges in various jurisdictions.

Honda Vs Guardrail

Motorist Chelsea Gilchrist, 22, of 2 Susan Lane, who was driving a 2000 Honda Civic sedan about 2:16 pm on April 28, exited her driveway and then struck some metal guardrailing along Susan Lane, police said.

Gilchrist was not injured. Police said they gave Gilchrist a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Failure to Appear

Police report that after learning that police held an arrest warrant against him/her, a youthful offender went to the police station about 8:48 pm on April 27, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court stemming from an original charge of disorderly conduct in connection with a past incident.

The youthful offender was released on $2,500 bail for an April 30 court appearance, police said.

State law on “youthful offenders” shields the identity of people under age 18 who are charged with criminal offenses.

Sandy Hook Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 6:30 pm on April 26 on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Wasserman Way, according to police.

Motorist Carlene Kopchak, 58, of 1 Liberty Drive, who was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Ford was struck from behind by eastbound motorist John Imbimbo, 17, of 14 Hyvue Drive, who was driving a 1995 Honda Accord sedan, police report.

There were no injuries. Imbimbo received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

Sedan Vs Deer

Motorist Paula Woodhouse, 52, of 11 Farm Field Ridge Road, was driving a 2012 Honda Accord sedan northward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, near Evergreen Road, at about 6:52 pm on April 26, when a deer ran onto the street and collided with the auto, police said. Woodhouse was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Volvo Collision

Motorist Shawn Caron, 39, of 69 Philo Curtis Road was driving a 2006 Volvo S-40 sedan near 80 Church Hill Road at about 7:54 pm on April 26, when a deer ran in front of the auto, resulting in a collision, police report. Caron was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Sand Hill Plaza

Police report that at about 3 pm on April 21, motorist Jonathan Rivera, 27, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2002 Mazda 626 sedan, struck the rear end of a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu sedan driven by Haley Craw, 17, of Monroe, who was waiting to pull out of a driveway at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Crosswalk

A two-vehicle accident occurred near 11 Queen Street at about 11:25 am on April 28, police said.

The collision involved motorist John Hoetjes, 41, of New Milford, who was driving a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire coupe, and motorist Nancy Flachsbart, 55, of Bethel, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Forester, police said.

Police said that the southbound Subaru stopped for pedestrians at a crosswalk and was then struck from behind by the southbound Pontiac. There were no injuries. Hoetjes received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.

Newtown Shopping Village

Police report a two-vehicle accident in the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street about 4:42 pm on April 27.

The accident involved motorist Max Lopez, 16, of 18 Pond Brook Road, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet K-1500 pickup truck, and motorist Priscilla Hein, 44, of 9 Sealand Drive, who was driving a 2000 Ford Excursion SUV, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

I-84 DUI

State police report that at about 10:28 pm on April 26, motorist Robert Victoria, 55, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1997 Chrysler Town & Country minivan westward on Interstate 84 between Exits 10 and 9, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Terrance Haase, 58, of Danbury, who was driving a 1990 Ford F-250 truck.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Victoria to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, state police said.

State police said they arrested Haase on charges of driving under the influence, traveling too fast for conditions, and driving without automotive insurance. Haase was released on $1,000 bail for a May 7 court appearance, state police said.

Rochambeau Bridge

State police report that motorist Dean Isaacs, 62, of Danbury was driving a 2006 Nissan Altima eastward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of the Rochambeau Bridge at about 4 pm on April 23, when he drove onto the median, then drove across the eastbound lanes and struck guardrailing along the right road shoulder, after which the Nissan reentered the road and went onto the left travel lane.

State police said Isaacs told them that he had been cut off by a tractor-trailer truck driver, after which the accident occurred.

Isaacs was not injured. State police took no enforcement.

Highway Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred during rainy conditions on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, at about 9 am on April 23, state police report.

While attempting to change travel lanes, a 2011 Hyundai Elantra, which was driven by Chrysaugi Zindros, 30, of Waterbury, struck a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Neize Monteiro, 52, of Naugatuck, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Interstate DUI

State police report that they arrested motorist Heather Furlong, 29, of Danbury on charges of driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and failure to drive in the established lane about 11:25 pm on April 26, following an accident on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9.

Furlong was released on $1,000 bail for a May 7 court appearance, state police said.

Ring Found

Police report that they are holding for safekeeping a diamond engagement ring that was found on April 30 in the parking lot at Caraluzzi’s Food Market at 5 Queen Street. The ring has initials and an anniversary date engraved on its interior surface. The owner may claim the ring at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Church Hill Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident near 53 Church Hill Road at about 4:15 pm on May 2.

On westbound Church Hill Road, motorist Michael Burton, 52, of 107 Glen Road, who was driving a 2002 Ford F-250 pickup truck, struck the rear end of a 2000 Nissan Altima sedan driven by William Ludwig, 51, of Bethel, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Burton for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
