U8

Super Strikers 2, Lightning 0: The Super Strikers demonstrated a great all-around team effort on Saturday morning. The four goalies turned away all opposing shots led by PJ Salva, Gabby Mogdollon, Abby Stites and Maleeha Ali. Kyra Masone continued her terrific all-around play, and the team was supported well by the hustle and play of Elise Baricelli, Katelyn Zanieski, Katie Marcum and Emi Rosenthal. Emma Butler scored the first goal of the game and Abby Stites added the second, both coming off assists from Julia Gerace. The Lightning received tremendous goalie work as well and the team was sparked by outstanding games from Maddie Patrick and Nicole Fisher.

U10

Newtown Wolfpack 1, Shelton 0: Karsen Pirone had the only goal in a very close contest. Hannah Daly had a great save toward the end of the match to preserve the win. Kaitlyn King, Colleen Phaneuf and Hannah Groonell played defense and were able to shut down any Shelton attack. Kaley Meisenheimer, Laura Augenbraun and Isabella Manfredi controlled the midfield, while Faith O’Hara and Sarah Tressler kept the pressure on the Shelton goalie while playing forward with many shots on goal and a few breakaways.

Newtown Funky Monkeys 4, Ridgefield Sky Blue 4: On this crisp spring day, the Funky ones got off to a slow start, trailing a fast Ridgefield team 1-0 early on, Megan O’Rourke broke free down the side and set up the first of Sage Karp’s goals for the day to tie the game. Thanks to some daring goaltending by Olivia Cavallero, the Monkeys were able to take the lead 2-1, but not for long. Ridgefield stormed back to tie the game before the half. The Monkeys then found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard as Ridgefield jumped to a 4-2 lead. Pushing forward with some nice counterattacks set up by Maddie Stites and Olivia Oltran in the backfield, the Monkeys found themselves a goal to cut the Ridgefield lead to one. Barely 5 minutes left to play, the Monkeys found their stride again as the birthday Monkey, Aniko Walsh found herself in front of the net with the ball. Some fancy footwork beat the Ridgefield defense and Aniko was able to tie the game, giving her teammates a great birthday present.

U11

Newtown 6, Weston 0: The U11 Newtown Dynamites took on visiting Weston for the first of their Connecticut Cup Series. The Dynamites did a good job of hustling to the ball and played the entire game on the attack. Katie Sailer knocked in the first goal from a long throw-in by Lauren Carrino. Within a minute, Katie carried the ball down the field for the second goal of the game. Rebecca Gavel was in goal the first half and had a few saves. Emma Curtis crossed the ball to Lauren Carrino to bring the score to 3-0. Katie Sailer assisted Lindsay Merrifield who found the back of the net for the next score. Lauren Carrino played goal in the second half and recorded two saves. Kristen Cirone then took advantage of a corner kick made by Brooke Antous to bring the score to 5-0. The final goal came from Lauren Carrino. Keeley Kortze contributed on defense and made some shots on offense.

Newtown 3, Fairfield 2: The U11 Dynamites traveled to meet a strong Fairfield team in a regular season game. Lindsay Merrifield, Audrey Benson, Lauren Adams and Lu Hage were aggressive on defense in keeping the ball out of the Newtown net. Lauren Carrino had some saves as the Fairfield team stepped up the pressure. Both teams had shots that just missed the net, but there was no score at the half. Newtown came back from the break on the attack and were rewarded when Brooke Antous crossed to Katie Sailer for the first goal. The Dynamites kept up the pressure and Keeley Kortze assisted Lauren Carrino for the next goal. Fairfield responded but Rebecca Gavel was able to make the save. Lauren Carrino made the final goal on a set piece just outside the penalty box. Fairfield answered with a goal of their own. Lauren Adams made a few convincing shots that their goalie stopped. Fairfield continued to press and made another goal. Newtown was able to preserve the win with relentless defense.

U12

Newtown Panthers 4, Monroe 0: The Panthers successfully kept the pressure on by containing play in the offensive zone for much of the game. Greta Staubly was successful in her efforts to breakdown Monroe’s defense with a beautiful goal shot in the first half. Juliette Grover played a smart game with several shots on goal before connecting with an assist from Audey Sedensky to score in the second half. Resident gazelle, Lauren Russo, connected for two goals with assists from Juliette Grover and Hannah Rosenthal. Elizabeth Chamiec-Case’s rounded out the Panther’s hustle with several shots on goal. Dani Otero’s defensive efforts shut down Monroe’s offensive standout, while Diana Kirkman’s keen footwork and Allie Paynter’s aggressive play turned the ball back to Newtown’s offensive line at every chance. Maria Ringes and Alex Futterman alternated defending the goal with their aggressive field play. Kira Kelly showed her versatility by playing defender and midfield with both fine footwork and a stellar header.

U14

No Names 2, American Eagles 1: For the American Eagles, The lone goal was provided by Caroline Viselli with key assist help from Grace Sholtes. Molly Begg and Arian Dellacorte had a super all-around day on the offensive side of the pitch. The Eagles defense was anchored by the stellar play of Haley McNulty and Sarah Simenson, both played very well, deflecting multiple attacks on net by the opponent. Stephanie Haas and Kaysie Fisher both played excellent in goal during the back and forth contest. The No Names goals were scored by Maddie Marlin and Erika Teetsel. The defense was anchored by outstanding goaltending from Katelyn Henchcliffe (many outstanding saves) and excellent defense from Melissa Shohet. The offense was driven by excellent passing from Tessa Leon-Gambetta which set up many goal opportunities.

Wild  Animal Prints 2, No Names 0: The Wild Animal Prints played a solid game. Both goals were scored late in the game as the Wild Animals wore down the opponent. Goals were scored by Zoe Ivan and Margo Elkins. Great forward play was put forth by Camryn Findley and Kelsey Miller. One goal was scored with a solid pass backwards by Kiernan Kelly, Danielle Scarpa led the ball to the center, and Zoe Ivan shot a rifle into the upper right hand side of the goal.On defense, Kayla  DiSiblio and Lexie Badick were steadfast in keeping the ball out of scoring position. In goal, Kiernan Kelly, Madison Findley, Megan Nahmias, and Kelsey Miller all defended well with solid saves. For the No Names, Janyce Toth and Holly LoCassio gave a strong defensive effort, thwarting many scoring thrusts by the opponent. Through their hustle, midfielders Jaclyn O’Leary and Diana Akiri kept the play near the opponents goal, leading to many scoring opportunities by Maddie Marlin, Rachel Jacuzzi, and Caroline Cole.

U6

Sparks 1, Thunderbolts 4: Both teams had an outstanding first game of the Spring season, showing great teamwork and some silky skills. For the Sparks, Lucas Milano fired home in the second half after latching onto a great pass from Adam Dissa. Ben Ziperstein made several amazing saves in goal, with Sean Reilly outstanding in defense. For the Thunderbolts, Logan ‘the bulldozer’ Akbas opened the scoring with a deft shot into the corner of the net after a powerful run from midfield. The lightning-quick Timothy Galer outpaced the Spark’s defense twice to slot home 2 neat goals, and the imposing Dylan Magazu fired home a screamer to score from short range. In defense, Cameron Ward and Anthony Bello were impressive while Sam ‘Obi-Wan’ Ankers dominated the midfield and just missed with a scorcher of a shot that hit the post.

U8

Team Four 2, Sponge Bobs 1: Tanner Trede scored the lone goal for the Sponge Bob’s while Tyler Grosso, Jake Mailloux, Cameron Petrelli and Connor Dullinger kept the pressure on the opponents defense the entire game. Strong efforts on defense were given by Andrew Michlovitz, RJ Figueroa and speedy Torin Kearney. Jack Petersen had another outstanding game in goal for the Sponge Bobs.

Wolverines 1, Lego Guys 0: The Lego Guys played an hard fought game against the Wolverines this past Sunday. The team exhibited brilliant defensive play. Brendan Adams played excellent at goal while Charlie Sepp anchored the defense successfully fending off multiple offensive attacks. Ian Moore, Justin Zemo. Dylan Geiling and Mathew Jacobs led the offense with multiple attacks on the Wolverine’s goal. The Wolverines were locked in an intense battle Sunday and after multiple runs on the net were able to punch in a goal late in the 4th quarter from Neil Kalra and hold on for a 1-0 win. The Wolverines defensive attack was lead by Andy Zhang and relentless midfield play was run by DJ Bobowick. The game was a very exciting, fast paced event with great team play on both sides.

Cheesballs 1, Team One 1: The Cheeseballs played another great team game against a strong Team One team. For the Cheeseballs, Owen Reinhart scored from a great pass by George Sandercox. Michael Elston and JP O’Leary were fantastic in net and Sam Staubly, Colin Marshall and Calum Edmond played well and created many chances throughout the game.

U14

Fishes 3, Water Buffaloes 0: Despite the Water Buffaloes’ impressive teamwork and improved passing, they were overwhelmed by the powerhouse offense of the Fishes during Saturday’s game. The first half was scoreless until Tim Van der Have pummeled the ball into the net. Spencer Tolson sent a bomb across the field in the second half resulting in another Fish goal. Adam Robertson capped the Fishes’ performance with a third goal late in the game. Thomas Gavel anchored the defense for the Fishes, while Owen Walsh’s phenomenal defense prevented all Buffalo efforts from meeting their mark. The Water Buffaloes defense worked tirelessly throughout the game. Goalkeeper Robert DiSibio prevented many goal attempts from adding to the score. Daniel Reilly and Jeroen Schickendantz put forth strong defensive efforts, and James Barry was indispensible at midfield.

Water Buffaloes 3, Bob Sagets 3: Monday night’s game between the Buffaloes and the Sagets ended in a tie as the well- matched teams dueled for the advantage. The Water Buffaloes took an early lead with 2 goals scored by Dillon Palumbo with assists from Andrew Janco and Lukas Palumbo. Andrew Janco rounded out the score with a goal of his own. Robert DiSibio had a strong performance at midfield and as a forward, while Will Ballard kept his cool in the goal under consistent pressure from the Sagets. Travis Hanna scored one for the Sagets. Kevin Arthur followed up with two more goals, one being a penalty shot. RH Clark was locked down in the goal with excellent defense from Riley Burns. Nate Torre-Tasso contributed good all-around play for the Sagets.
