Ken Knoernschild, 87, of Newtown, died April 28. He was born in St Louis, Mo., November 21, 1924, son of Anna Barbara and Oscar Knoernschild. Ken was predeceased by Micki, his beloved wife of 62 years.
He received his bachelorâs degree from Columbia University. He was a World War II veteran, serving as an ensign, DLX in the US Navy.
The Knoernschilds lived in Waterbury for 19 years, where all three of their children were born and he worked as a mechanical engineer at Chase Brass & Copper, Co. They moved to Trumbull in 1967, and Ken worked for the Kerite Company of Hubbell Inc until he retired in 1989.Â
Mr Knoernschild was an avid golfer, and played many sports well. While living in Trumbull, he continued to enjoy golf and bowling with the Tashua Knolls Menâs and Senior Menâs groups. He served as their golf handicap chairman for many years. He was a zealous sports fan, especially for UConn Husky basketball.
Mr Knoernschild was a member of the Long Hill United Methodist Church.
He is survived by sons Mark Knoernschild, and Jane Bartosik, of Newtown and Kurt Knoernschild, and his wife Sally Nogg, of Poughquag, N.Y.; his daughter Krista Knoernschild, and her husband Mark Murzin, of Bend, Ore.; two grandchildren; his brother, Leonard; and many nieces and nephews. Mr Knoernschild was predeceased by his five sisters.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Lockwood Lodge, where he enjoyed his final years of life.Â
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 8, from 5 to 8 pm, at Lockwood Lodge, 139 Toddy Hill Road, Newtown. There will be a âSharing of Memoriesâ at 6:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of oneâs choice.
The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, assisted the family with arrangements.
