Max Browne of Sandy Hook, a home-schooled student, has earned a Gold Key Medal award in this year's Scholastic Arts and Writing national competition. All Gold Key medalists and their teachers will be honored at a National Awards Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 7.

Max's teacher, Francesca Morrissey, announced the news on April 24, sharing that she is proud of her student's accomplishment.

Max earned a Gold Key Medal for an essay submission titled "Normalized Nonbinary," which was originally written for a 2016-17 AP English Language and Composition class with Ms Morrissey.

Ms Morrissey said in an e-mail that she looks forward to working with Max during senior year, beginning this coming fall, on an English Independent Study Project of choice.
