‘Meditation Boards’

By Hochstetter

On View At Library

Pamela Hochstetter’s new body of work is an integration of paint, clay, enameling, and hot glass. Semi-precious gemstones have occasionally made it into the mix as well.

This new direction is the synthesis of 35 years of professional exploration into aesthetic, technical and spiritual matters. “Breaking Through:  Meditation Boards” is a group of some twenty bas-relief paintings Ms Hochstetter has recently completed.

The collection will be on view at C.H. Booth Library during May.

Ms Hochstetter holds a master of divinity degree from Yale University and a BS, summa cum laude, from Western Connecticut State University in art and education. She has studied at Pratt Institute, Maryland College of Art and Design, Greenwich House Pottery and Brookfield Craft Center as well.

When she is not in the studio creating (and re-creating) herself, she facilitates individuals and groups in process painting sessions. The objective of her practice, InnerArt, is to assist people in “creative revitalization.” Her training in process painting was with veteran art therapist Jane Gross, MA, LCSW.

She savors the time spent orchestrating the marriage of materials not usually found in concert with one another on a painting’s surface. Her intention for these “meditation boards” is to help inspire spiritual growth, courage and goodness – while challenging our usual way of seeing things.

Ms Hochstetter has benefited greatly, she says, on her own spiritual journey from the nourishment of beauty created by other artisans, as well as the marvels of nature. It is her hope that the viewer can be fed by her enthusiasm for what stretches the imagination, and what brings delight to the heart through the action of the eye.

C.H. Booth Library, at 25 Main Street, can be reached at 426-4533. Ms Hochstetter’s work can be seen in the library’s lower meeting room.
