To the Editor:

An op-ed was published by NJ Spotlight News written by Amy Goldsmith, New Jersey State Director of Clean Water Action, on April 28, 2021, exactly a year before an editorial appeared in The Newtown Bee entitled “Toward Better Understanding A Little Known Zoning Designation.”

The article by Ms Goldsmith is relevant to this editorial and is entitled: “Op-Ed: How To Stop Warehouses From Blanketing New Jersey.” I have quoted the header and last sentences of the article, as they provide an action plan for Newtown voters who are dissatisfied with current zoning laws and the decisions made by elected town officials.

The header of the article is: “It’s going to take gumption on the part of local officials.” And the concluding words are as follows: “It will take a concerted and unified effort between elected officials and the electorate itself to curb warehouse sprawl. The first step is to elect local officials who will be tough on zoning laws that allow them in the first place.”

A current action plan for Newtown residents is making their voices heard at the Planning and Zoning Commission hearing to be held at the Edmond Town Hall Theatre on May 5 at 7 pm to prevent the Wharton warehouse project from desecrating their community. Also critical is attendance at future hearings by the P&Z Commission and full awareness of zoning plans and decisions.

And, as suggested by Ms Goldsmith, there is another action plan: Make your voices heard once again when voting for Newtown officials in future elections, so that they will be fully informed of and better understand the will of their citizens.
