There are a few days left to find the perfect present for Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 9. Check out this sampling of local shops to find something for that special mother figure in your life:

Hollandia

Hollandia has a bountiful selection of Mother’s Day gifts at both garden locations — its nursery at 103 Old Hawleyville Road and its gift and garden center at 95 Stony Hill Road — in Bethel.

Eugene Reelick, owner of Hollandia, says moms love flowering crabapple trees that have blooms in all different colors, such as pinks, whites, and reds, as well as rose bushes that “come in a palette of colors.”

The garden options at Hollandia are “the gift that keeps on giving,” Reelick said, because they can come back next year or, in the case of hanging flower baskets, can be enjoyed all the way until the end of summer.

Hollandia also sells birdhouses in a variety of styles to fit the yard’s aesthetic.

“It brings happiness and movement and joy to the garden,” Reelick said.

If you are not sure exactly what mom may like, there are always gift cards available, too.

For more information, call Hollandia at 203-743-0267 and 203-792-0268 or visit ctgrown.com.

Indigo Jane Boutique

Indigo Jane Boutique, 71 South Main Street, opened earlier this year in Ricky’s Plaza and has fashionable women’s clothing, décor items, and accessories.

Valerie Fallon, owner of Indigo Jane Boutique, says the shop has a focus on denim, and “If mom wants to get into a new pair of jeans after being in sweats for many months, a gift card is certainly always an option. Then she can come in and try styles on and different brands to see what might fit best for her.”

There is an array of clutches, purses, and totes to go with any outfit.

For Mother’s Day, shoppers can also check out Indigo Jane Boutique’s line of bath and body products.

“The white tea and ginger and the lavender and hibiscus have been pretty popular,” Fallon said. “I have bath bombs, lotions, soaps, and candles in different scents.”

Newtown Florist

Whether the mom in your life prefers vibrant, bold colors or soft, pastel hues, there are flowers to meet her specific preferences this Mother’s Day.

Judy Grabarz, owner of Newtown Florist, said, “We also have a nice selection of plants, mostly indoor and a few patio plants, and we also have gifts.”

Potted options include blooming plants like orchids and mandevilla, as well as green plants such as the fiddle-leaf fig. There are even fairy gardens available that have mixed green indoor plants.

The wide assortment of additional gifts available includes everything from candles to home décor to jewelry.

People can stop by the shop or call in to have their purchases delivered directly to their mom in Newtown for Mother’s Day.

Newtown Salt Spa

Newtown Salt Spa, 43 South Main Street, is offering pampering gifts that are handmade from Sierra Scrubs and Soaps. There are new scents available in time for Mother’s Day, including sandalwood/vanilla bath bombs and jasmine salt scrubs. Those looking to try something new can check out the facial oils. Items are sold separately but can be assembled for custom gift bags.

Katherine Hansen, owner of the Newtown Salt Spa, is also partnering with Curious Escape, a new shop located in the same plaza, for two special Mother’s Day bookings.

“We’re doing a salt session and (separately scheduled) massage combo,” Hansen said.

People can book a 45-minute salt session at the Newtown Salt Spa with a separate 30-minute “focus massage” at Curious Escapes or a 45-minute salt session with a separate 60-minute message.

The salt session consists of a private booking of the salt room, where mom can relax alone or invite up to five more people to spend the time with her.

Andrea Appelbaum, owner of Queen Street Gifts, said she has “all different flowery scenes” for people to choose from this spring as “a fun, unique, and different gift.”

She added, “We’re also taking reservations to do paint parties outside this summer, starting this weekend.”
