St Rose Speech Contest

Develops Student Skills

St Rose School students recently participated in the Modern Woodmen School Speech Contest, which helps develop self-esteem in the participants by providing a valuable personal, academic, and community experience.

First place winner was Benjamin Martinez, second place winner was Katelyn Power, and third place winner was Peter Walsh. Their names will be engraved on the school’s plaque and each of them received a trophy and a gold award pin.

Gold award pins were also given to the next four ranking finalists: Patricia Culligan, Mary Kate LoPiccolo, Anne LoPiccolo, and Ryan Drummond.

According to Gerard Luczak, local Modern Woodmen representative, more than 90,000 students annually take part in the School Speech Contest, which is an importance part of the curriculum of teachers around the country.

Modern Woodmen of American, a fraternal life insurance society with its Home Office in Rock Island, Ill., makes the contest free of charge to help young people develop public speaking skills.
