Traditional & Contemporary Styles Featured In SCAN's Spring Juried Show & Sale

The SCAN Spring Juried Show & Sale opened on Saturday, May 3, but the show formally opened a public reception held on the afternoon of Sunday, May 4. Over $1,000 in cash prizes were awarded for a number of works in the show on Sunday afternoon, including “Smile,” a pastel by Harry Burman.

Mr Burman’s work received the group’s top honor, The Larry Newquist Award For Excellence/Best in Show. It was the second consecutive win of the Best in Show award for the artist.

This is the 44th Annual Spring Juried Art Show at Cyrenius H. Booth Library held by The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc. (SCAN). The show will be on view at the library until May 11.

This year’s juried exhibition offers 119 traditional as well as contemporary works in oils, pastels, watercolors, acrylics, mixed media, graphics and sculpture are on display in the library’s lower meeting room for the event.

The jury of selection and awards included artists Frank Bruckman, Charles Ray, and Shauna Shane.

The exhibition can be viewed any time the library is open, when the meeting room is not in use. Booth Library, at 25 Main Street, is open Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am to 8 pm; Friday, 11 am to 5 pm; Saturday, 9:30 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, noon to 5 pm.

“Elvis’ Dream,” a watercolor by Ron DeFelice, earned The Betty Christensen Award.
Linda Thomas earned The Richard Ochs Award/Watercolor for this work, “Casablanca Lilies.” 
"Smile, " a pastel by Harry Burman, was named The Larry Newquist Award For Excellence/Best in Show winner. It was a repeat win for Mr Burman of the show's top award.
