Key Found

Police are seeking to return to its owner a Mercury-brand car key that was found on the side of Poverty Hollow Road, near the Redding town line, on March 30. Police are holding the key for safekeeping. The owner should contact Officer Benjamin Mulhall to claim the key.

Currituck Road

Police report that motorist Adam Cameron-Braley, 26, of 14 Currituck Road was driving a 2002 Subaru Impreza sedan northward near 44 Currituck Road at about 6:40 am on April 26, when the auto’s radiator failed, spewing steam into the air. Cameron-Braley’s view was obscured and the auto veered to the left, striking several trees, police said. He was not injured. Police said they gave him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Walnut Tree Village

Police report a two-vehicle accident at Walnut Tree Village, a condominium complex off Walnut Tree Hill Road at about 12:08 pm on April 26.

Police said motorist Bonnie Sue Stampp, 67, of 130 Louis Hill Road, who was driving a 2008 Subaru Outback, was backing out of a driveway on Louis Hill Road and then struck a parked unoccupied 2006 Toyota Prius.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Stampp for unsafe backing.

 

Sign Theft

Police are investigating the apparent theft of an advertising sign from the corner of South Main Street and Simm Lane.

Sometime between 8:30 am and noon on April 29, someone removed the sign that bears the legend Superior Windowland. The wooden sign measures seven feet by three feet and has white lettering on a blue background.

Police ask people with information on the sign’s disappearance to contact investigating Officer John McCluskey.

Highway Crash

State police report that motorist Erlinda Ramos, 80, of Uncasville was driving a 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-350-W4 sedan westward on Interstate 84 about three-quarters of a mile east on Exit 9 at about 2 pm on April 29, when trucker Brian Colian, 49, of Salem, Ohio, who was driving a tractor-trailer truck, merged to the left as the roadway there decreased from three lanes to two lanes, but struck the Mercedes while merging.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Colian for making an unsafe lane change.

Dirt Bikes Stolen

Police report that sometime overnight on April 30–May 1, someone stole two lightweight, off-road motorcycles, commonly known as dirt bikes, from a residential property at Wills Road, near Orchard Hill Road. Both stolen motorcycles are made by Honda, police said.

One of the motorcycles was found on May 2, but the other vehicle — a blue-and-white Honda YZ-125 — is still missing.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the missing motorcycle’s whereabouts to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Interstate Ramp Accident

At about 11:43 am on May 1, motorist Adrienne Relyea, 57, of Demarest, N.J., who was driving a 2012 Honda Accord, stopped for traffic on westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 off-ramp and was then struck from behind by motorist Nabeeha Abdulrazak, 21, of Danbury, who was driving a 1998 BMW 528 auto, state police said.

Relyea mentioned neck pain, but refused medical attention, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.

Highway Accident

State police report that motorist Anthony Scelfo, 23, of Niceville, Fla., who was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck on eastbound Interstate 84 about 500 feet west of Exit 11 at about 4:40 pm on May 1, stopped for heavy traffic and was struck from behind by motorist David Allego, 61, of Salem, Ohio, who was driving a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country minivan.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

VW vs Ford

At about 5:22 pm on May 1, motorist Dariusz Kuzebski, 38, of Prospect, who was driving a 2003 Ford Focus eastward on Interstate 84 almost one mile west of Exit 11, stopped in heavy traffic and was then struck from behind by motorist Catherine Ellenberg, 34, of Middlebury, who was driving a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, state police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Ellenberg to Danbury Hospital to be checked for possible injuries, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.

Two Vehicle Accident

According to state police, motorist Gira Cuffee, 46, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry sedan on Interstate 84 almost one mile west of Exit 10 at about 5:33 pm on May 1, stopped for heavy traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Daniel Haworth, 42, of Ware, Mass., who was driving a 2012 Ram truck.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Highway Collision

State police report that at about 4:41 pm on May 2 on eastbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 11, motorist James Vanderlyn, 43, of Watertown, who was driving a 2008 Saturn Aura sedan, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist James Kiernan, 27, of Yonkers, N.Y., who was driving a 2013 Mazda CX-5 SUV.

There were no injuries. Kiernan received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

Warrant

Police report that at about 9:30 pm on May 2, they spotted Justin Smith, 24, of 4 Goodyear Road walking on Goodyear Road, after which they investigated and charged him on a warrant with second-degree failure to appear in court.

After arrest processing, police released Smith on $5,000 bail for a May 20 appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.

I-84 Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 10, about 10:36 am on May 3, state police report.

In that incident, motorist Edward Robin, 78, of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., who was driving a 2007 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, attempted to change travel lanes and sideswiped motorist Hugh Morehouse, 58, of Danbury, who was driving a 2013 Ford Fiesta, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Credit Card Crime

Police report that after learning that they held warrants for their arrests, Lori Anne Schovanec, 34, and Frank A. Schovanec, 42, both of 117 Huntingtown Road, went to the police station about 5:45 pm on May 5 and were each arrested on multiple credit card-related offenses.

Police charged Lori Anne Schovanec with ten counts and charged Frank Schovanec with nine counts. The charges include credit card theft, illegal use of another person’s credit card, sixth-degree larceny, and conspiracy. 

Police said the charges stem from an investigation that they began last November 8.

Each person was released on $10,000 bail for May 20 arraignments in Danbury Superior Court, police said.
