Nighthawk Tennis Teams Win

Newtown High School’s girls’ tennis team defeated Stratford and Bunnell of Stratford both by 7-0 scores in home matches on consecutive days. The Nighthawks, after defeating Stratford on May 8, had their Senior Night against Bunnell the next day.

Against Stratford, Erin Marshall and Jamie Rowan posted 8-0 wins in singles play, and Emma Lyddy and Brooke Jackson won via forfeit. In doubles action, Margaret Donovan and Ella Morits won 8-0, Molly Lyddy and Eren Weiss won 8-0, and Molly Tinkler and Sydney Bruno won 8-1.

In the win over Bunnell, singles players to come out on top by 6-0, 6-0 scores were Willow Assante-LaBash, Nadia Andrew, and Madi Singlak, and Marshall won 6-0, 6-1. All three doubles tandems won 6-0, 6-0: Kristen Reisert/Caitlin Briggs, Isabelle Montoya/Liv Guizzo; and Joey Libero/Molly Lyddy.

The girls, after visiting Notre Dame-Fairfield on Wednesday (after The Bee sports section went to press), go to New Milford Monday, May 15 at 3:45 pm for the last match of the regular slate.

The boys won a pair of road matches against the same opponents, defeating Bunnell 7-0 on May 3 and Stratford 7-0 on May 8.

Against Bunnell, singles winners were Aditya Singh, Frankie Cannizzo, Alex Kyprianou, and Andrew Sposato; doubles winners were Oliver Clancy/Michael Berry, Theo Anderson/Carter Briggs; and Liam Conlin/Michael Lawlor.

In the win over Stratford, Cannizzo, Anderson, Kyprianou, and Sposato all won; and in doubles action, Ethan Hillefeld/Ryan Hislop and Conlin/Lawlor came out on top; Cam Linnetz/Zach Avari won via forfeit.

The Nighthawk boys host New Milford Monday, May 15 at 3:45 pm, to close out the regular season.
