Minor Collision On Main Street

Newtown police report two vehicles — a 2015 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium operated by Francis Gilbert, 19, of Oxford, and a 2007 Mercury Milan operated by Johnathan Radatovich, 19, of Sandy Hook — were traveling southbound on Main Street, approaching the intersection with West Street and Church Hill Road, around 8:26 pm, Wednesday, May 12.

Radatovich had stopped in traffic, which Gilbert, behind him, realized too late. Gilbert was unable to stop before the front end of the Subaru struck the rear end of the Mercury. Both vehicles then moved to an adjoining parking area.

Both operators and a passenger in the Subaru reported that they had not sustained any injuries. All were wearing seat belts.

There was damage to the front bumper of the Subaru and to the rear bumper of the Mercury. Both were driven from the scene after investigation.

Gilbert was given a verbal warning for following too closely.

Following Too Closely

Newtown police report two vehicles — a 2008 Honda Civic LX operated by Jason Silkowski, 21, of Newtown, and a 2014 Toyota RAV-4 Limited operated by Marcela Ventura-Diaz, 47, also of Newtown — had been traveling northbound on South Main Street near 71 South Main Street around 4:35 pm, Thursday, May 13.

Traffic was moderate due to regular congestion.

Silkowski reportedly realized too late that the RAV-4 had stopped in front of him, and the front end of the Honda struck the rear end of the Toyota.

Ventura-Diaz was able to turn into Ricky’s Plaza after the collision. The Honda remained partially in the northbound travel lane. It was moved to the plaza as police arrived on the scene and instructed Silkowski to do so.

The front end of the Honda sustained disabling damage and the vehicle could not be driven from the scene.

The rear end of the Toyota sustained moderate damage and was able to be driven from the scene.

There were no injuries reported.

Silkowski was given a verbal warning for following too closely.

Verbal Warning

A 2019 Chevrolet Traverse being operated Kristen J. Bodelsen, 40, of Newtown, was traveling north on South Main Street, approaching Laurel Road, around 4:40 pm Thursday, May 13, when a line of geese walked out from the northbound shoulder into the roadway, in front of the SUV.

Bodelsen stopped to avoid striking the geese.

A 2013 BMW X1 Xdrive 28i being operated by Anthony F. Manca III, 17, of Newtown, was behind the Chevrolet. Manca was unable to stop in time, and the front of the BMW collided with the rear of the Chevrolet.

There were no injuries to either driver, nor to a passenger in the Traverse. All were wearing seat belts, according to the police report.

Manca was given a verbal warning for following too closely.

Two Men Arrested

Newtown police responded on Sunday, May 16, to an individual brandishing a firearm at another person.

Following an investigation, Justin Green, 35, of Newtown, was arrested and charged with breach of peace in the second degree and threatening-second degree. Green was released on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on May 25.

Hector Veras, 40, of Danbury, was arrested and charged with breach of peace-second degree and stalking-second degree. Veras was also released on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court, May 25.

Misdemeanors

Police report a 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty truck being operated by Hans Reelick, 17, was traveling southbound on Hawleyville Road and came to a stop for traffic around 5:22 pm, Monday, May 17.

A 2003 Honda Accord EX operated by Douglas A. Rodriguez, 31, of New Milford, was traveling southbound behind the Ford. Rodriguez was unable to stop before the front of the Honda made contact with the rear of the truck.

No injuries were reported. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Rodriguez was issued a misdemeanor summons for traveling an unreasonable distance apart and operating with a suspended license.

Verbal Warning

Police report a 2009 Honda Civic LX being operated by Robert A. Koekkoek, 52, of Newtown, was behind a 2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 being operated by Meaghan George, 40, of New Milford, around 5:20 pm, Thursday, May 19.

Both vehicles had been traveling west on Mt Pleasant Road, and both had stopped for a line of traffic.

As traffic began moving westbound, the Honda’s front bumper struck the Nissan’s rear bumper.

No injuries were reported. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Koekkoek was given a verbal warning for following too closely resulting in accident.
