Daniel C.     Barker, MD
Daniel C. Barker, MD, of Fairfield, died May 25, at Thirty Thirty Park, Fairfield.
He is survived by a son, Bruce W. Barker, and his wife, Carol, of Newtown.
Born in Bridgeport on July 10, 1913, Dr Barker lived in Fairfield most of his adult life. He grew up in Niantic, where he attended Bulkeley School. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1936 and from the University of Maryland Medical School in 1940. On May 23, 1941, he married Adelaide I. White. She predeceased him on December 25, 1995. Dr Barker started his general practice in medicine in Fairfield in 1943. He was very dedicated to his profession, which left him little time for hobbies. Dr Barker was a member of the Fairfield Beach Club for more than 50 years, and was a longtime active member of First Church Congregational, Fairfield, where he served as a deacon for many years.
Survivors also include a daughter, Jean (Barker) Halsell and her husband, Hugh, of New Canaan. He was known as Papa by six grandchildren, Bruce W. Barker, II, Andrew H. Barker, Jay Shotwell, David Shotwell, Benjamin Halsell and Sarah Halsell; and his three great-grandchildren, Hunter Shotwell of Utah, and Adelaide and Petra Shotwell of New Zealand. He is also survived by a sister, Jane (Barker) Montgomery, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on May 29 at 2 pm, in First Church Congregational, Fairfield, with the Rev David W. Spollett officiating. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimerâs Association or the charity of oneâs choice.
The Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, was in charge of arrangements.
