Slow Down!
Slow Down!
To the Editor:
After a near tragic event in our neighborhood I feel compelled to write and remind drivers to slow down and pay attention, especially in residential neighborhoods. This time of year many people, young and old, are enjoying the great outdoors by simply walking, jogging, biking, or playing ball. In this day and age when so many of us are busy and preoccupied, many rush along as though they are the only ones on the road. Slow down! Children have a right to play in neighborhoods and get off the school bus safely.
We were fortunate this time that no one was hurt. My children were getting off of the school bus when a young driver sped past the flashing lights and sounding of the horn by the bus driver. Rather than a mere apology I believe that a fine or points one oneâs license would be an appropriate consequence and serve as a greater impact to the errant driver. It is my hope she and others will be more aware of the responsibility they hold when driving a car.
