To the Editor:
Who among us does not seek personal satisfaction in our lives? Finding love or achieving success are among some of the goals we often seek that fulfill us. Satisfaction can be achieved in many ways. Sometimes the opportunities come in subtle ways; sometimes they hit you between the eyes.
Fortunate are those who recognize the moment and act upon it. Such is the moment upon us. Each one of us is being given the opportunity, and perhaps the responsibility, to be part of history, to share in the vision and hope for those who will follow us. Years hence, people may not fully appreciate the gift we, todayâs voters, bestowed upon them, but we know, and this knowledge is what gives us satisfaction and pride and hope. The reward is within our own conscience. The responsibility of acting when action is necessary is our responsibility.
June 6, 2001, is the day a town meeting will consider funding both a new school and the purchase and initial development of the former Fairfield Hills property. We, the undersigned, urge you to join us in securing our vision for a Newtown dedicated to excellent education and the fulfillment of hopes for a better quality of life for all our citizens.
