Memorial Day Care Packages

On Thursday, May 24, the Newtown Lions Club mailed Memorial Day Care Packages to Newtown troops on active duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. The packages contained many items that have been requested by troops stationed in the Mideast.

This particular shipment included 65 boxes of Girl Scout cookies donated by Newtown’s Girl Scout Troop 138, dental supplies supplied by a local Newtown dentist, and many items purchased by the Lions Club. These shipments give the Newtown Lions an opportunity to say Thank You to the troops serving the nation.

Also, a group of troops from the 102nd Infantry Connecticut National Guard stationed in Bristol returned home from Afghanistan on April 21. Some members of the Newtown Lions were among the many families and friends who met the troops that day.

The Lions will continue to send care packages to Newtown’s active duty troops in the Mideast.  The next shipment will be in late October or November.  The Lions appreciate receiving the names and addresses of all troops from Newtown or those related to Newtown residents who are actively serving in Afghanistan, Iraq, or Kuwait. Contact Wayland Johnson at 426-5418.
