The event is scheduled at the Marriott Hotel, 180 Hawley Lane.

Speakers include gynecologist Masoud Azodi, MD; Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery Juan Sanchez, MD; and urologist Robert Weinstein, MD. They will discuss the benefits of minimally invasive robotic surgery, which include less postsurgery pain, smaller scars, and a shorter recovery time.

In addition, patients who have undergone minimally invasive robotic surgery will be on hand to answer questions about their personal experiences with the procedure.

The da Vinci “S” system is named after Leonardo da Vinci, the Renaissance inventor credited with building the first mechanical robot.

The system is now being used at Bridgeport Hospital for certain heart, lung, prostate, and gynecological procedures. Using a sophisticated viewing system that magnifies the part of the body being operated on, surgeons control every precise movement of the robot’s mechanical arms.

For added safety, the computerized da Vinci “S” system automatically stabilizes the movements of the surgical instruments at the tips of the arms. The lecture begins at 7 pm. To register, call toll free, 888-357-2396.
