Dynamites Finish Second

The Dynamites placed second in the U11 girls division of the 30th Annual Newtown Kickoff Memorial Day Tournament this past weekend. The tournament opened with a game against Southbury which Newtown lost 1-0. In the second game, the girls fought Shelton and won 4-0. Goals were scored by Katie Sailer, Lauren Carrino, Keeley Kortze, and Lindsay Merrifield. Saves were made by Rebecca Gavel and Kristen Cirrone. Audrey Benson and Grace Corcoran were key on defense. The third game was against Bethel which ended in a 1-1 tie. Lu Hage was aggressive on defense and Lauren Adams had some ecishots on goal. Katie Sailer assisted Brooke Antous with a goal. In the title game against Southbury, Newtown struck first, but eventually fell 4-1. Jenna Lavelle netted Newtown’s lone goal, but numerous shots by the Dynamites failed to find the back of the net. Rebecca Gavel, Kristen Cirrone and Lauren Carrino had many saves for the Dynamites.
