Creative Mailing 19, Newtown Insurance 9 – Kate Bowen (3-for-3), Alex Caracciolo (2-for-2), and Ashley Kuligowski (2 hits) paced the Creative Mailing offense in a win. Cynthia Reynolds, Kathy Townsend and Sabrina Yudelson also ripped singles. For Newtown Insurance, Kristen Errico completed a double play with first baseman Hannah Basch-Gould while Brittany Clark smacked three hits and Amanda Nealy singled.

Creative Mailing 11, Drapery Couture 5 – Emily Krewson and Shannon McCarthy both ripped singles to lead Creative over Drapery Couture. Kaitlin Marsden smoked a double while Daria Maruschak scored two runs and made an outstanding catch in right center field. For Drapery Couture, Kristen Brassard, Susan Mason and Lauren Johnson each collected hits.

U12

Newtown Hardware 6, Union Savings 5 – Colleen Cunningham struck out nine batters in three innings and went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Newtown Hardware. Kendall Svanda had two hard hits. For Union Savings, Linnea Pearson, Aria Brownell and Rachel Camejo all played great on defense.

Newtown Hardware 13, Keno Graphics 1 – Strong defensive plays by Kendall Svanda and Sarah Pettinelli led Newtown Hardware to the win. Janis Hubina also played well. For Keno Graphics, Tory Braga and Lauren Harrison hit well as Elizabeth Grimes and Mary Beth Meier had solid efforts in the field.

Newtown Hardware 14, Rich’s Keys & Locks 9 – Megan Gibbons and Kate Appley banged out two singles and scored three runs apiece, but Rich’s Keys & Locks fell to Newtown Hardware. Megan Murphy and Appley were solid defensively at third and shortstop, respectively.

Keno Graphics 18, Union Savings 5 – Erin Begg and Ali Kennedy pitched Keno Graphics to the win. Tory Braga had a great catch, Tara Dawley ran the bases well and Katie Fossum bunted well. For Union Savings, Meriah Tani pitched a solid game and banged out two hits. Caroline Kurtz and Brittney Soucar hit the ball hard and Shannon Barra scored twice.

Carminuccio’s 8, Rich’s Keys & Locks 6 – A solid pitching effort by Emma Herring, Natalie Dunn and Caitlin Cocivi carried Carminuccio’s to the win. Caitlin Dowling and Taylor Brady drove in runs. For Rich’s, Abbey Doski pitched two scoreless innings, Rhea Schneider and Jenna Bonaccorso were solid in the field and Megan Gibbons ripped two doubles to right field. Tori Theobald and Jenna Poeltl (two RBIs) each added base hits.

Creative Mailing 12, Atkinson Stonework 10 – Jessica Gibbons belted a pair of home runs to lead Creative Mailing Services to victory. Karlie Kuligowski and Gibbons pitched a great game as Abi Kuligowski went 4-for-4 at the plate. Annie Bier hit well and Kamryn Harmeling made a few key plays for Atkinson.

Ferris Mulch Products 21, Newtown Limo 9 – Vicky Kokoszka and Meghan Logan led the Ferris Mulch offense with a combined six hits (Logan added a double). Kate Butera led the defense with a spectacular running catch in left field to end the game. For Newtown Limo, Brianna Bauch pitched two strong innings as Melanie Rotante homered and Kirsten Liniger collected hits.

She Devils 19, Ferris Mulch Products 11 – Nadia Elhag and Morgan Macchiarulo played terrific defense at catcher and infield and Jill Moller hit the ball well to help the She Devils go ahead in the game. Ellen Atkinson played tough defense and got on base to help the She Devils to victory. For Ferris Mulch, Emily Paloian went 4-for-4 as Kate Butera played well on defense.

She Devils 9, Atkinson Stoneworks 8 – Sheila Smith pitched a solid game and Monica Macchiarulo hammered a homer to lead the She Devils to the win. Anna Grillo and Nadia Elhag made several key defensive plays. For Atkinson, Jessica Oliger and Samantha Rohrbacher played well in the field as Lily McEnaney hit solidly to keep the team within striking distance.

She Devils 6, Newtown Junior Women 5 – Ellen Atkinson and Ashlee Honiker got on base and helped score the go ahead runs early in the game to lead the She Devils. Monica Macchiarulo pitched well as Jill Moller played well at second. For the Junior Women, Mallory Ames pitched two scoreless innings. Erin Brassard collected her first hit, as Kelsea Morshuk, Courtney Yapp and Kelly Brassard powered the offense.

Atkinson Stonework 13, Creative Mailing 9 – Kimmy Gates pitched two shutout innings and went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Atkinson to the win. Olivia Sergiovanni hit the ball hard. For Creative Mailing, Karlie Kuligowski pitched a great game and Rachel DiVanno played well in the field.

Student

Taunton Press versus MasterCard International – Ashling Sugarman and Caroline Keane had key hits, Annie O’Connor was stellar at first base and Kathryn Blanco was solid behind the plate for MasterCard. For Taunton Press, Grace Frost and Megan Goyda pitched a great game while Sami Arnold did a great job behind the plate. Alexis Tucker handled first base like a pro.

Travel Tryouts

The Newtown Babe Ruth Softball League will hold travel team tryouts for U14 and U16 players on Saturday, June 3, at Fairfield Hills. Attendance is mandatory for all players hoping to make a team. U14 players will try out at 10 am while U16 players will try out at 12 noon. If you cannot attend the scheduled tryout you must call Nancy Bowen, travel director, at 426-7101.
