Four Towns Combine Seatbelt Enforcement

As part of a two-week enforcement campaign known as “Click-It or Ticket,” which seeks to have motorists obey the state law requiring seatbelt usage, Newtown police conducted a joint enforcement project in Newtown with police from Redding, Bethel, and Brookfield from 2 to 7 pm on May 25.

Besides seatbelt violations, police focused on enforcing the state law that prohibits motorists’ use of handheld cellphones while driving.

In the joint enforcement project in Newtown, police issued violations to 18 motorists for not wearing a seatbelt and issued eight cellphone violations, police said in a statement.

Similar enforcement projects involving police from the four towns are also held in Redding, Bethel, and Brookfield.
