He was raised in West Hartford, and graduated from Kingswood Oxford High School after spending time as an exchange student in South Africa. Mr Bergen went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Bates College in Maine, then a diploma from Computer Processing Institute.

Mr Bergen worked for many years as a project manager at Cadbury Beverages in Stamford, until starting his own Internet gift business, On A Whim, with his wife.

He enjoyed spending time at Squam Lake in New Hampshire, boating and relaxing. He also loved his music, cooking, and watching golf and all sports, when not caring for his lawn.

In addition to his parents, his father-in-law, Carl Nosal, and his brother-in-law, Edmund Nosal, predeceased Mr Bergen. His love of animals was shown by his attachment to his dog, Triscuit.

Funeral services will take place Wednesday, June 5, at 7 pm, at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Avenue, Glastonbury. Friends and relatives may call on the family at the funeral home, Wednesday evening, one hour prior to the service, from 6 to 7 pm. Graveside services will take place Thursday, June 6, at 10 am, in St Augustine Cemetery, South Glastonbury, with a procession from the funeral home beginning at 9:30 am.
