Girls Place Fifth As Nighthawks Compete In State Track Meets

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ track and field squads participated in the Class LL state championships, at New Britain’s Willow Brook Park, on June 2. The girls placed fifth, with 43.25 points, among 22 schools to score; Staples of Westport, with 84, won the competition. In the boys’ meet, Newtown was 16th with 12 points; Ridgefield scored 102 to claim first place. Newtown’s top-ten event results are as follows:

Girls

400 Meter Dash: 4. Hailey Conrad, 59.64, five points.

1600: 3. Erin Tressler, 5:18.63, six points.

3200: 7. Emma Bayuk, 11:30.29, two points; 10. Sarah Mawdsley, 11:33.21.

300 hurdles: 2. Makenna Cerney, 47.29, eight points.

4x400 relay: 7. Shelby Tolla, Grace Corcoran, Jess Keller, and Conrad, two points.

4x800 relay: 8. Tressler, Bayuk, Camryn Cicarelli, and Keller, 9:57.44, one point.

Pole Vault: 3. Lauren Russo, 9-06, six points; 8. Jackie Sgobbo, 8-00, 0.25 points.

Shot-Put: 4. Micaela Nowacki, 32-03.50, five points; 10. Annika Alexander, 29-04.25.

Discus: 2. Nowacki, 118-09, eight points.

Javelin: 10. Nowacki, 95-08.

Boys

300 Hurdles: 4. Cole Terry, 41.83, five points.

4x800 Relay: 10. David Csordas, Ethan Burg, Joel Duval, and Christopher Gamble, 8:37.

Shot-Put: 3. Jack Godfrey, 44-09.75, six points; 8. Peter Manfredonia, 40-08.50, one point.

Hailey Conrad competes in the 400 meter race during a regular-season meet at Blue & Gold Stadium. Conrad went on to place fourth in the event at the Class LL state championships, in New Britain, on June 2. The Nighthawks placed fifth as a team.
